I ran.

Like the fucking wind. Not literally, but I might as well have. I mean, what else could I have done?

Not run away with tail tucked between my legs, for one. And tell her the truth right then and there. But the thing was- even I didn't know the truth. Not until I looked in her starlit eyes as she told me she loved me. Not until I saw her heart shatter as I turned and walked away. Like a god-damned fool.

She's been drinking heavily. I could tell- heck, anyone could tell. I beat myself over it again and again. And I wish to take it all back- to turn back time. But no one can do what each and every one of us has wanted atleast once in our lives.

"Um, hello? Psycho, can I speak to Ro- Beretta?", I motioned at the others to take a small break. We'd been riding hard towards the docks- the only path which could be used for surprise attacks. An hour of riding had taken its toll on all of us; I still couldn't feel my legs.

But what mattered more was her absence. She didn't show up for our little rendezvous, she wasn't even in the farewell party. No calls, no texts- nothing.

I perked up at the low growl on the other side. "She's not here. Busy- with work. She told me to tell you she'll call you later".

"Bu-", I started

"Bye"

Frowning at my phone, I quickly sent my 1000th text to Rose.

"Please call me, I'm waiting"

I searched for the nearest bar, finding it a few blocks away. First, I ordered a beer and then I waited and waited and waited. No calls.

Almost an hour later, my phone finally rang. So loud, that the drunkard next to me fell out of his chair and sneered at me. I'd turned up the ringer to full volume on purpose.

"Hello, Rose?"

"Yeah, It's me", a calmness so like home spread through me at that voice.

"Thank the lord. Darling, you scared me shitless here", I paused for some sort of smart remark from the other side. But nothing.

"You shouldn't have. I'm fine and everything's going well. You should focus on your job and not me"

"Look, I know I've made a huge mistake. Please just hear me out I-"

"I don't have much time, Blaze. There's still so much to do and-",

"Please", my voice trembled with betraying emotion.

"I'm listening", came the clipped response.

"Rose, you know I'm the worst at communicating. Growing up with the club has taught me to keep my secrets hidden and what better way to avoid slipping up to somebody then to not speak?"

"Did you jus-"

"My point is that I'm a scared motherfucker. I don't communicate in fear of being unraveled. But I've come to realize that- that I have come completely undone by you", seconds passed and I realized my past was once again caging me- threatening my future.

"I'm forever undone by you Beretta Rose Kingston. Forever- whether you like it or not. Because I love you. With every shattered and broken piece of my heart- of my soul"

"I love you too", she breathed out. And this- this weight slowly lifted off me. "With all my heart. And I- I want you to know that no matter what. To remember that- that I'm waiting for you. No matter what anyone says I'll wait here for you until I'm a star up in the sky"

"Rose, nothing's going to happen to me. Please do not worry. I'll come back to you, darling. And then we'll go watch the sunset, eating hotdogs"

"We will. Anyway, I've got to go. I'll talk to you later", she said hopefully and I internally beamed. "Of course. I love you"

"I love you", she said almost lovingly.

Finally satisfied from her side, I decided to put my focus on my work. But nothing could ever make me forget about the slight difference in Rose. Even on the phone, one could tell something was up. It might be the upcoming war, I assured myself.

But I wasn't aware of something even more sinister going on in my absence.

A/N:

Hello reader! I know I'm an awful human for not writing for a long while but A LOT happened recently which would sound super bizarre even if I tried to explain.

Happy Reading!  All comments, criticism and discussions are very welcome.
