............................................................................................................................................................................May hovered low over the top of Stark tower watching the scene below unfold. They had told her to stay high and look out for any suspecting civilians, but she knew they just wanted to keep her out of the fighting. Tony and Thor could fly and Clint could see things from further away than the rest of us. Just because she was the youngest, they treated her like a little kid. It annoyed her before, but now they were in a major battle and needed to work together in order to win. She was seriously pissed.
She circled half the city in about a minute, when she wanted to May could fly majorly fast. The police were doing their job, keeping people back. Frustration flared inside her once again at the sight. Her job was completely and utterly pointless. Again! This wasn't the first time they'd done it. Well, Tony and Steve had done this. They were kind of the leaders so everyone had to do what they said.
As she was flying back over the city, the sky darkened and in the distance she glimpsed Thor, with his hammer raised, standing atop one of the surrounding buildings. Lightning flashed across the stormy sky while ear-splitting thunder cracked, drowning all other sound completely.
Wind whirled around her, knocking her off balance. Losing her concentration, she span uncontrollably in mid-air for a few seconds before she felt her body drop, she plummeted 50, 100, 200 feet.
Sharp, freezing air whistled through her lungs, as a piercing scream issued from her open mouth. May tried, with all her might, to regain her concentration but all she could think about was the impact she would soon be making with the very hard, very solid ground.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, she felt arms wrap around her waist and she was no longer heading towards concreate. Looking up she saw the familiar red and gold helmet that could belong to only one man. Tony Stark.
"Thanks." Said May, rather shakily as they few back towards the fighting.
"What happen?" Tony asked concerned "You've never fallen like that before."
"The wind from Thor's lightning knocked me off balance and I lost my concentration." She told him, shuddering at the memory of knowing she was going to hit the ground and there was nothing she could do about it.
"Are you alright?" He asked and she knew J.A.R.V.I.S was scanning her at that very moment because she heard his voice through Tony's ear piece.
"Yeah, just a little shaken, but I'll be over it in a minutes." Even though she couldn't see his face she knew his eyebrows were raised but he didn't say anything.
As he landed next to the rest of the group, Tony carefully sent May on her feet, which made her once again feel like a child. Thor came up to her and said "I am sorry I did not know you were in such close proximity. I promise the next time I summon lightning, I will check you are within a safe distance." He smiled and clapped a hand on her shoulder.
She smiled back "Don't worry about it, I'm fine. I should have known I was too close."
"Then maybe we have both learnt a lesson out of this." He said and went to talk to Tony.
Natasha, Steve and Clint all hurriedly asked what had happened and if she was alright. When Steve was happy she was fine, he went to join Tony and Thor in their discussion of tactics. The other two however, were overly concerned.
Just to get away from all the probing she announced "I'm gonna take another look up top, just to make sure."
"Are you sure?" Natasha asked "I mean after what just happened?
"I'm fine." She said again irritably, before sawing into the sky without another word.
As May few over the dingy city, she saw a car driving down one of the roads. At first she didn't take much notice of it, but then she remembered the reason she was flying over the city.
As she made her decent, she wondered how such a large car had gotten past all the police. That was completely forgotten though, the seconded she realized she knew that car. Not only knew it but had sat in it almost every day for the past 2 years.
The instant her feet were on the ground, she concentrated her whole being on stopping that car from moving even an inch further forward. There was no way in hell she was going to let that car or it's occupant anywhere near fighting. She would do everything in her power, even if it was the last thing she ever did.
Suddenly, then was an almighty bang from beneath the rusty exterior of the giant truck, before May could even take a breath, it was twisting through the air at lightning speed.
"Jack!" She screamed, unable to stop herself, reaching out a hand, as if to pull her best friend out of the spirally vehicle, before it hit the tarmac with a sickening, bone shattering crunch.
