May moved just in time! The arrow whistled through the air, barely missing her torso by an inch. She knew he wasn’t going to give up that easily. There was no way around it, she had to fight him!

She ducked the second arrow heading towards her and flung herself towards him, kicking the bow out of his hand in the process.

That’s when the fight really began! She dodged many of his punches, just as he did hers, but one finally caught her, right in the stomach, instantly knocking the wind out of her.

He started to laugh, an evil, cruel laugh that didn’t sound right issuing from his lips. She tried with all her might to regain the concentration from moments before but however hard she tried, the blows kept coming. Every one of them, hitting her in painful places.

He kicked her legs out from under her and she feel, hard, to the floor. Without thinking, she kicked out and felt her foot connect to something very solid and hoped it was his face.

He leaned over her, bow raised as if to strike and May knew he was going for the kill. There was nothing she could do to stop him and she felt her body shaking as she cowered helplessly.

As his fist flew through the air towards her, she squeezed her eyes tightly closed, not wanting the last thing she saw to be the twisted, evil face of the man who had raised her. Instead, she imagined a happy scene where she was with all the people she loved the most and waited for death to come.

But it never it. All the sounds of the attack had vanished leaving a deadly silence in its wake.

Her eyes opened slowly, searching for any sign of her attacker but there wasn’t any. Why had he stopped? There was no chance she was going to beat him. She had surrender hadn’t she?

She sat there for several minutes, staring into space as she struggled to get her head around the situation. That’s when she noticed the silvery shimmer that hung around her.

The light had formed had formed a dome around her. She could see where it ended but she had no idea what it was.

Instinctively, she reached out and touched the new formed barrier but the moment she fingertips touched the spectacle; it vanished as if it had never existed.

Mat couldn’t breathe. Her lungs seemed to collapse in on themselves and spots appearing in her eyes, obscuring her vision. The next thing she knew, her head hit the icy, metal floor.

May’s eyes flickered open and were instantly blinded by a bright white light. Slowly, the scene around her came into focus, revealing a long, narrow room. The walls were a cold grey and made of metal, held together with steal bolts. Each one was lined with a row of hard, uncomfortable hospital beds. She was in the infirmary!

There were people everywhere, the majority of them sporting bloody injuries. Obviously, she wasn’t the only one hit by the explosion. She tried to sit up but was halted by the agonising pain that ripped through her abdomen.
