TW: omegaverse AU, fire, anxiety symptoms.

Denki hadn't responded.

It had been four hours since he'd last answered your text - one that you routinely sent out during his patrols, wishing him luck and safety. He usually made an effort to answer your text in some form or another when he was on patrol, during a calm moment or another. If he didn't, it was fine, because you trusted in him and his ability to keep safe.

However, the news channel you were watching began covering a fight. You had watched absentmindedly before you realized the general location was where Denki was supposed to be patrolling that evening. Then, as you scanned the roads for street addresses, you saw a black and yellow blur running towards the scene. You had just texted Denki, and there he was - unable to respond because he was rushing into the heat of danger. You knew he was afraid, often - he had confided in you after a particularly rough day on the job - and tried to push himself to make up for his fears.

And there he was again, rushing into battle - a solid two seconds before the alleyway burst into flames.

--

Your jaw dropped - your hands flew up over your mouth, covering the gasp that threatened to escape. Dread pooled in your stomach as horror sent chills all down your body. Denki had run straight into an inferno. Denki could be on fire. Denki might not - Denki might not come back.

You stared wide-eyed and shaky at the tv screen in front of you before you demanded yourself to turn the tv off, turn it off, get somewhere safe - he'll be okay.

The remote fell from your hand, the tv now turned off - though you barely remembered pressing the on/off switch. You vaguely registered moving around the house, retreating upstairs, searching for any form of comfort that you could find. You burst into the room you and Denki shared and buried yourself in the bedsheets, grabbing and arranging the blankets to wrap around you, pushing and fluffing what was unsatisfactory in your desperation. The pillows were fetched and laid beside you; Denki's pillow placed in front of you as you laid on your side so you could breathe in the pheromones that still clung to the fabric.

The gentle smell curled around you, the scent of your alpha calming you down yet making you miss him, worry still throbbing in your chest. You pawed around at the sheets, bringing the fabrics closer to your form. Closing your eyes and cuddling the pillow close, you could almost imagine - almost feel - that Denki was here with you, instead of in a white-hot alleyway all across town.

You stifled a whimper that rose in your chest, wiping a few tears that had slipped down your cheeks, and buried yourself further into the pillow as you tried your hardest to push negative thoughts from your head.

You couldn't fall asleep, but you could slip in and out of consciousness, eyes still moist even a few hours later. You couldn't possibly forget the events of what led up to your stress-induced nap; the whole point of the nest was to avoid it, yet here you were. Sighing, you opened your eyes and stared at your hand. How you wished your hand was holding Denki's right now - you missed cuddling with him, you missed his presence, you missed his scent - you missed him.

As the events of your day replayed in your mind, you supposed you should check the news again - maybe that would help alleviate some of your worries. Maybe you could be soothed a little bit that way. However, your heart plummeted again when you raised your phone and saw no new notifications. Denki still hadn't let you know he was okay.

Despair was just about to wash over you, to envelop you whole, when your ears picked up on a noise from downstairs. The familiar wiggle of the doorknob had your breath catching, heart beating half out of your chest, and you found yourself out of the nest and in the stairwell before you knew what you were doing. It might be Denki. It must be Denki.

You skidded around a corner of the stairs and rushed over to the door, launching yourself into your boyfriend's arms as he entered the doorway. Denki startled back, slightly overwhelmed, no doubt, by the mixed scents of lingering terrified and pleased pheromones in the air. "Whoa, baby," Denki tried to steady himself, one hand shutting the door and another one coming to wrap around your shoulders. You just hugged him tighter, nuzzling your face into his collar, cursing that godforsaken choker that he wore for getting in the way of his neck. Pleased purrs drifted out from you, permeating the air as you breathed Denki in, who held you against him firmly and pressed gentle kisses to your hairline. "You okay, Y/N?" He asked gently.

"I should be asking you that," you protested from your spot against his neck. "Are you hurt?"

"Not anymore," Denki hummed, bringing a hand up to card through your hair. The pressure made you crane your neck up to look at him with tear-filled eyes.

"I saw you on the news," you began. "Do you know how bad it looked? I thought you weren't coming back out of that. You had me worried sick, Denki."

Denki gazed at you with saddened eyes, taking your face in his hands and bringing you close to plant a gentle kiss on your lips. You kissed back eagerly, desperate for reassurance that he was here, he wasn't going anywhere. You felt him deepen the kiss for a moment, noses brushing as he tilted his head to accommodate yours. You tried to open your mouth, to invite him in, but he pulled away, resting his forehead against yours, still neglecting to open his eyes.

"I'm so sorry I worried you, baby," he apologized, voice drenched with guilt. "I'm okay now, though. I got burned at the scene but there was someone with a healing quirk there. I'm fine now." He opened his eyes, golden irises brimming with emotion as he gazed at you. "I'm here now, okay, I'm not leaving."

You leaned up to kiss him again, the soft brush of lips making you let out a small purr again as your alpha's hands gripped your cheeks softly, tongues tangled together, exchanging declarations of love and intent and sheer relief at the other being okay. You eventually moved to the couch, where you kissed again, just so caught up in each other's touch that you didn't care if the world stopped around you; for, as far as you were concerned, your world would keep revolving as long as you were in Denki's embrace.
