"a feeling deep in your soul says you were half, now you're whole."

- funny girl

RACHEL BERRY HAD TO BE brought down to Earth.

No one had really expected the New Directions to win their first Sectionals, not even the members themselves considering the fiasco that had gone down before. However, when it did happen that their names were called out as the winners of Sectionals, a little seed had been planted in Rachel Berry's head that her rendition of Don't Rain On My Parade was what had edged them to first place

That seed had been watered and bathed with sunlight, nurtured to the plant that was now Rachel's overinflated ego.

Eliza Hudson couldn't, for the life of her, figure out the logic that had led Rachel to believe such things. She knew that Rachel had to be knocked down a few pegs or else she would not be able to bare Glee Club anymore. Her initial idea was to shove some good ol' criticism down Rachel's throat, Eliza knew that the star of the club could not handle criticism whatsoever. She'd tell her that her rendition was flawed and completely lacked Barbra's emotional depth. However, Santana Lopez insisted on doing things by the system, and it was hard to say no when being persuaded by the Latina cheerleader. And so, Eliza did not say no.

The two best friends fell into step with one another in the hall, heads turned and hearts raced at the mere sight of them. Their eyes scanned for the certain short brunette and paid no attention to the ruckus their return to school after the break had caused.

"You got the slushie?" Eliza asked the Cheerio strutting alongside her.

Santana smiled, itching to be up to no good again. "God, I've missed you." She handed over a cup, dewy from the ice-cold beverage inside.

Rachel Berry came into sight, marching through the crowd like she ruled the school, a fantasy that only existed in the bubble of her own ego. The two Cheerios came to a stop in front of her, and Eliza had to give her props for not bothering to hide her exasperation.

"You two are in my way," Rachel said.

Santana exaggerated an offended look. "We are never in anyone's way."

Eliza's chin raised. "So that means, right now, you're in ours."

Santana tutted and didn't care to hide her smile. "Never a good place to be."

The blue reality check hit Rachel's face without missing a beat. As the young Berry ran her hands across her eyelids, Santana's smirk grew wider in satisfaction. Eliza Hudson seemed to be relishing in the same sensation, but something within cried out to her, begging her to free the girl that had been locked in the depths of her heart.

Mr. Schue's energy had been reawakened by the return of school, a sentiment his students did not share even the slightest. He had greeted the kids and prodded them until he got a greeting back. Dull, scattered hello's filled the room. Mr. Schue had his work cut out for him.

"What do you guys say when you answer the phone?" He asked the uninterested teens before him.

"What up?" Mercedes said.
