"happy birthday, luke!" my friends were cheering and smiling at me.
today marked my sixteenth birthday.
the boys and i had made a band.
alex and willie are dating.
we have two new friends..
julie and flynn.
things are different this year.
my father leaves home more often leaving my mother to find comfort in other men.
a cake sat in front of me.
one of my favorite flavors.
sloppy writing was on the top, if i had to guess- reggie did it.
'happy birthday to our favorite luke!'
the silly little writing actually made me smile.
oh how rare that action was.
"thank you guys, i really love it."
that same small smile was on my face.
willie chuckled.
alex flipped his imaginary hair.
reggie went to go find a knife.
julie ruffled my hair and kissed my cheek.
flynn stared longingly at julie but hid it well.
i wonder if this is how i look when staring at reggie.
"thank you guys, honestly. im so happy to have you."
"aww, little lukey is being a sap and i missed it?"
reggies voice had a mock pout to it.
everything about him made my heart flutter but.. that sentence caused butterflies to swarm my stomach.
"WAIT! willie will you please take a photo of us?" Julie asked the older one of the group.
he nodded and told julie, reggie, and alex to join my side.
alex threw up a peace sign and turned his hat sideways with squinted eyes.
julie stuck out her tongue and thought to copy alex with a peace sign.
reggie had his arms around me with a wide smile on his perfect face.
thinking about this moment i found myself smiling wide, and then a flash went off.
