ZOE:

The present’s wrapping paper shone when the light hit it. It was blue, red and white, just as she new he would like it. She had arrived from her trip a couple of hours ago and was finally at home, unpacking and telling her mom all about her amazing holiday.

Those were the best twenty days of her life. Ever since Zoe was a child, she had developed this obsession with going to New York, and for her 18th birthday, her dad acceded to take her. The Empire State, Time Square… It was hard to believe that time had gone by so fast, but however she was unconsciously counting the days to go back home and see him again, to give him the present she had put so much effort on to get.

Holidays had finished two days ago, and everybody was at school by that time. Zoe was extremely tired, but nothing could hold her back. She wanted, she needed to meet her friends again. And Liam.

“Mum, as you’re gonna pick up Jason from school, can you give me a lift over there? I want to see Li… the girls,” Zoe requested with a smile.

“Sure, they probably want to see what you have for them,” Allison trailed off, glancing at the present her daughter was holding in her hands.

When she realised she hadn’t got them anything, Zoe blushed furiously and stared at the floor.

“Yeah, something like that,” she murmured. “C’mon, let’s go!”

On the way to school, Zoe sang out loud all of the songs which were blasting through the radio and laughed at her stupidity. It was incredible that the fact she was going to see him again could cheer her up so badly. Before getting off the car, she looked at her reflection in the mirror. A shy, ginger girl with big green eyes and an unsteady smile looked at her back. “It´s just a present, you can do it”.

Maybe the heat she was suffering was because of her nervousness–after all, it was -2 degrees outside-, or maybe because of the two sweaters she had put on, leaving the beige and larger one first, covering her torso till inches above her knees. Liam’s sweater.

Zoe walked through the long, crowded hallway and didn’t ran into any of the girls, which she appreciated; not because she didn’t want to see them, but because she needed to see him first, she needed to be sure that he was still there for her.

When entering the dining room, all of the people there, all those voices mumbling and surrounding her made her fell small and uncomfortable, made her think that maybe she shouldn’t have gone there, that maybe Liam already had a girl to take care of him, after all, she was gone for almost a month… What if he ignored her? What if he hadn’t missed her at all?

Shaking her head and determined to find him, Zoe kept walking. Liam would never do something like that, it just wasn’t like him.

“Zoe?”
