ZOE:
Getting a bit tipsy was, definitely, the best way to learn how to dance. She would never admit to herself -and less to Niall- that she didn't know how to dance, so she started making fun of him, and it was working. That could be a very good night, indeed.
"Hey!" Zoe shouted, when she felt as if she was lifted two feet above the floor.
"Hey, princess!" Liam smiled.
He couldn't get any more perfect. The plaid shirt he was wearing highlighted his brown eyes, and the haircut he had had when she left made him look, at least, two years older than he was.
"Hey, Li," Zoe greeted him back. Suddenly, she remembered the blond guy standing beside her and introduced them. "Liam, this is Niall, my neighbor, Niall, this is my best friend, Liam."
"Nice to meet you," Liam said, stretching Niall's hand. "If some of them bothers you, just ignore them, they are wasted. Would you mind if I steal Zoe for just a minute? She'll be right back."
"Of course not, I'll go get something to drink. I'll see you later, Zoe."
Niall smiled, but somehow the girl could see that the smile on his lips didn't match the look in his eyes.
"Are you alright?" She asked her best friend, not so tipsy anymore.
"I have to talk to you. Please, don't freak out," he mumbled quickly, to leave her at ease. "It's about something that happened while you were away. I... well, there was this party at Dean's, and Sam and Nicky came." Zoe opened her eyes widely. None of her friends had told her anything about that. "And well, I had had a lot to drink and..."
"Hey Zooooe!"
"Hi Sam," she answered back, without stop staring at Liam. "What's going on, were the girls invited as well?"
"Nope," Sam laughed, popping the "p". She was clearly drunk. "I came here because Leeyum asked me to!"
Sam suddenly noticed Liam standing in front of her, and that was where Zoe lost understanding of the situation.
Has it ever happened to you that you see an unpleasant event about to happen, but you can't do something to stop it? Well, that was kind of where Zoe was. When she tried to remember what she and Liam were talking about, an image of her best boy-friend and one of her best girl-friend making out blurred her sight.
Liam got Sam off of him immediately, and talked to Zoe.
"Zoe I... I'm sorry, I was about to tell you, but Sam, she..."
"Stop it, Li! She's our best friend, she should be happy for us!" The girl who once had been her best friend giggled.
Zoe didn't know what to do. No, she actually did. She had to get out of there. Otherwise she was likely to throw up right there.
"I... We'll talk later, Liam, I'm sorry... I have to go."
She headed to the door, tripping with drunken people and wetting her dress with the alcohol in their glasses. She probably smelled horrible, but she couldn't care less.
Looking at herself in the entrance mirror, Zoe hated herself. She was such an idiot, how could she think that she and Liam would be "something" someday? She hated everything about her. Her eyes, her hair, her low-profile- 5' 1'', her lack of social life and her humongous love for books. She even detested her tattoo. One step closer... CLOSER TO WHAT?! To end up hurt, like she always did.
