I decided to ask him what he meant.
"Ren....what do you mean, different people like us?" I sat up, my blue sun dress sprawled around me, feeling like a naïve child.
He smiled sarcastically, feeling disgusted with himself and mad at the world. "Let me let you in on a little secret." He motioned me closer.
I got closer, then he leaned in, grabbing my wrist with one hand.
"We're not normal Claire. We'll never be normal." He whispered softly.
My eyes widened by the ominous tone in his voice. I was suddenly frightened by him, and started backing away.
He still held on tightly.
"Let go of me! Of course we're normal!" I screamed, tears falling.
"Stop fighting me, are you really that stupid?" He jerked me into him and hugged me. I felt something bigger than a tear fall down on my cheek.
Now inches from his face I said "Prove it. Prove that we're different."
He stared at my eyes. "I knew it." He smiled.
"Knew what?" I asked, frustrated.
"You are just like me, Claire." He slid his finger on my cheek and the thing I felt fall from my eye stuck to his thumb.
"You've never taken off your contacts before?" He held mine in his hand.
"I wouldn't be able to see." I felt stupid, but that was my only excuse.
"You're eyesight isn't the problem, it's your eye color."
I gasped and ran towards a window to see my reflection.
He was right! I looked at myself and saw a brown haired girl with a brown eye and....
....a blue eye.
I quickly blinked until my other contact fell out and looked at myself again.
Now I had two blue eyes.
I finally saw myself.
"Blue..." I turned around and saw Ren. His brown contacts were thrown onto the dark grass, and his eyes were a radiant blue that matched mine.
"I knew they were contacts...the moment I saw you, your eyes were-"
"Shallow." I finished for him.
I sat down and held my face in my hands. He sat beside me.
"Now what do I do? My contacts are missing and everyones going to see me like this!" I half-mumbled into my hands.
"See you like what? Beautiful? Unique? Different?" He knew that's what I always wanted to be.
"You're right... but how are people going to accept us?" I looked up.
"Maybe they won't. I don't care. I'm never wearing those filthy things again and neither are you." He grabbed my hand and helped me up.
I put my hands on his chest and felt his heavy breathing as I got closer.
I was too nervous to make a move.
"I'll see you tomorrow." I whispered.
I crawled back up my wall again for the second time tonight, with the sun about to rise. I closed my window and crashed onto my bed, waiting for tomorrow to see Ren again.
