~ Mira's POV~
I walk around the tree and smile spotting the small mushrooms.
"Thought you could hide hmm?"
I gather the small things and place them into my basket. I begin walking back my path when I hear a twig snap and instinctively turn around. I slowly reach for my dagger, trying to identify the source of noise. I squint seeing a small bush of blonde hair peek around the tree."You've seen me, now you can go by your ways."
I say turning around, taking my usual path back. I hear the human shuffle around trying to catch up. It's another little kid, fulfilling a dare. He'll leave if I ignore him."Miss..! Miss!! Wait for me!!!"
His words babble about as his small legs try to keep up with mine. I hear a small thud then a small whimper. Please don't start crying.... He sniffles, trying not to cry. I try to ignore him but the thorns here can be poisonous if not avoided. I suck my teeth and sharply turn on my heel. The small boy is cradling his bloody knee and I sigh walking over."I told you to leave, didn't I? This place is not for children. You should've gone back home and this would've been avoided."
I kneel down and watch as he holds his knee closer. I reach to move his hand before he falls, fainting. That was quicker....maybe because he is a child. I watch as his breath staggers and drop my basket to pick the small boy up with a hand and my basket in the other."Looks like I have no choice..."

I'm stirring the pot of stew when the child begins crying, screaming for his mother. He's having a nightmare.... I let go of the spoon, my skirt swishing with my movement. I peek into the room and see as the little kid kicks, fighting some sort of monster. I silently walk in and bend over, tapping the small creature. He quickly jolts up and widens his eyes. Half asleep and terrified, he reaches for me and wraps his small arms around my waist.
"Mum is dead....."
I'm startled by the sudden remark and blink down at him. His mother.....A sudden image of Madam and Alya fly past my mind. I stammer as the kid silently cries on my corset. I look around and slowly wrap my arms around the small one's head and pat his back."The bad men killed my mum Miss.....I don't want to go back...."
I blink ahead, ignoring the smell of the stew burning. I tighten my arms around the boy and my voice gets hoarse."Bad men.....?"
He lets go and nods, looking up at me. His small freckled face as red as my corset. He begins his story with sniffles and big hand gestures. He follows me, continuing, as I fix the stew. The King's knights are ruthless.....they do what they want behind the King's back. I fill a bowl with stew and place it on the table and tap the edge of the table."Come eat.....what is your name child?"
He climbs up on the chair and sits on one knee looking up."Alistair. I'm 5."
He blinks at the stew, trying not to drool. I hand him a spoon and a piece of bread, frowning. He's starving....no child should starve. I look away and walk back to the pot to stir it once more before serving myself a bowl. I sit across the child who is halfway done with his bowl. I watch as he evenly bites his bread to match the spoonfuls of stew being stuffed in his small mouth."Do you want to stay here Alistair.....?"
What the literal fuck did I just ask?! I don't want no child running around! Stop it Mira! I watch as he finishes chewing and gulps it down, quickly nodding."Yes Miss! My Pops is already dead and Mum was the only person I know...."
He wipes his lips with his small hand and sadly looks at me. I quickly look down avoiding eye contact with the child. Shit....now what....?*Author's Note; Hello! Most of my work is unedited.
