2 years ago:

A small blonde girl stood at her bedroom window, waiting for her mother's return. She never watched the news. All it did was stress her out. So she had to wait.

She let out a sigh of relief at the sight of a black car pulling into her driveway. She ran outside. Her mother wasn't who got out of the car. It was her uncle, Clint Barton and another familiar face. One she hadn't seen in years.

  "Clint?" She asked "Where's mom?"

The archer didn't respond.

"Uncle Clint?" She asked

Still no response. His face was red and he was wearing a black suit.

"Where's my mom?" She repeated

Clint looked up, he couldn't speak. The other man stepped up. He placed a metal hand on Clint's shoulder. His face was just as red.

"Remember me Lyssa?" He asked

She nodded, looking into the face of Bucky Barnes.

"Hey dad." She said "Where's my mom?"

Bucky sighed, running a hand through his hair.

"She's um-she. She's dead." He stuttered out "She died saving a lot of people."

"She's dead?" The girl asked, seeming to lose her voice. "she-she can't be dead."

The girl started to drop to the group. Bucky lunged forward, catching her.

"Alyssa. I've got you." He whispered "It's gonna be okay."

"I want my mom." She cried, burying her head in his chest.

"I know."

Clint ran his hands up to his hair and held his head back, staring up at the sky. The girl let out a mournful scream and Clint saw Bucky flinch at the sound.

"Lets get her inside." He whispered, encouraging Bucky to carry her into the house.

They got the girl settled down and into her bed before sitting down in the kitchen.

"I don't know how to do this." Bucky whispered "I haven't seen her since she was 7."

"She's a good kid. Doesn't get into trouble." Clint assured "and if you need help you can call me. Or Pepper."

Bucky nodded.

"This is a step I wasn't prepared for." He said

"No one is." Clint replied "A suggestion? Move her closer to the compound. Closer to all of us. Maybe Queens."

"Uprooting her doesn't seem right. Like it'll make it worse."
