Hello everyone! This is my first time writing a fanfic, and I'm beyond excited to share my crazy ideas with you guys! Also, english is not my first language. So there may be some mistakes in the grammar or spelling of this fanfic. But I will try my best to keep those mistakes minimal.
Once I saw the prom episode of Grey's Anatomy, the idea came into my mind. I always wished that Addison would've been the one to be in the exam room alone with Meredith, instead of Derek. So I decided to get creative and write this short story? Maybe a two-shot fanfic? who knows, i'll figure it out as I go. I want to make it clear that I have not seen this idea anywhere on wattpad before, so that's why I'm writing it:) I hope you all enjoy!! And thank you so much for reading!

Enjoy

Things become what you don't expect them to. Life is funny and annoying that way. Life can change in just a blink of an eye when something unexpected takes place. Many people fear this, and with reason. No one knows the outcome of the spontaneous things life throws on the way. This things may change the path of life forever, either for the best, or for the worst.

Meredith always had something unexpected happen to her. Ever since she was a kid, her life was full of surprises and challenges. One after the other. Which is why, maybe she should be used to it by now.

But she isn't.

And maybe she never will.

This time though, it was different.

No one died, no one left. It was not an unexpected something, but a someone. Her boyfriend's wife to be exact.

Addison Adrianne Forbes Montgomery Shepherd.

The beautiful, tall, red headed woman, who stood in front of Derek and Meredith when they were getting ready to leave the hospital for the day. Meredith was not aware of who she was then. At first, she had thought the read head was one of Derek's sisters, since she introduced herself as "Addison Shepherd."

Wrong.

Addison was not a sister, but his wife.

HIS WIFE.

Mcdreamy turned out to be a liar. Who would've thought that? Pretty much no one, and certainly not Meredith. She had visioned a whole life with him. He was the one, definitely. Or at least that's what she thought. Now, her perfect Mclife was ruined, and all because of HER. Her existence was really a pain for Meredith. She was part of Derek's life, or at least, she had been for 10 long years.

That's a long time.

Who would be able to beat that? Meredith had known the guy for what? a few months? He was more of a stranger to her. She really didn't know him, like, TRULY know him. But Addison did.

Of course she did.

She was perfect, flawless, all leggy and fabulous. She really should not hate her, after all, this whole mess is not her fault.
Although she did cheat on Derek, that was not an excuse for him to hide her existence from Meredith. She should hate him! And part of her did, but part of her still loved him. Oh, so much it was pathetic.

So pathetic.

After that whole fiasco, Meredith turned herself away from everyone. That's what she did best. Stay out of people's way. She's done it since she was a kid with her mother, and she will continue to do it now too.
All of this was too much for her. He broke her. She was broken, everything in her was now broken. She wanted to disappear, to hide away forever. Maybe live in a cave where no one would ever bother her? Yeah, that was a good idea. There, she would have no friends pity her and try to make her feel better. They were kind and only trying to help, but it just made Meredith feel even more pathetic.
She would also not see him or her. The only company she would have is herself and her thoughts.

That was company enough for her.

But unfortunately, one cannot run away and hide from their problems. Well...they can, but eventually, those problems become bigger and more present in the end.
So, Meredith decided not to follow her desires of going away, and hide from everything.
What she could do though, is stay away from both Derek and Addison.

And that was the plan.

Everything was going to work out fine. Until she remembered she still had to work with both of them. Meredith realized she couldn't stay away from them, even if she really wanted to. She was obligated to work with both Addison and Derek. There was no other way.

Surprise! Something didn't work out for her, yet again.

This was not going to stop her though. She was above all, a professional. In the end, she was not planning to give up her career for one of life's punches in the face.

Yes she got hurt. Yes she had a lot of depression sex. Yes she regrets all of that depression sex. Yes she did loose herself.

But she was better now. She was dating, and even accepted to be friends with both of them.

So adult and mature of her.

It obviously started as fake friends, of course. But if Meredith was being honest, she didn't mind being friends with Addison. She had to admit that Dr. Montgomery was not at all bad. She was certainly not evil. Although, she sometimes lived up to her nickname as "Satan" or "Ruler of all that is evil."

Maybe the vet helped with Meredith's sudden change? Dating him taught her to see the good in people. He was so nice and caring, maybe too much actually. Almost to the point where it was contagious.

Gross.

He didn't really match Meredith's aura. She was dark and twisty, and he was all nice and sunny.

How could someone be that nice? No one is ever that nice. How could they be together? No one knew, not even them.

They were like water and vinegar together. But one thing was true, he sure helped Meredith. Even when he really didn't fit with her.

He helped her.

Everything was finally going back to normal. Maybe she was meant to be with Mcvet for awhile. Maybe this was the reason why Addison showed up in her life. She was meant to come ruin her perfect, dreamy life with Derek because she was meant to be with the vet. Maybe that's why Derek chose Addison, and not Meredith. Even after all of that whole "pick me, choose me, love me" speech.

Lies, lies, lies. So much lies.

Meredith found that thought alone, impossible. Could never happen in a million years. Not after that night.

That one night alone.

That night of the prom.

That stupid night.

That lovely night...
