Disaster, mess, accidents. This was all familiar to Meredith, maybe a little too much. It was all happening too fast, too soon. It felt like a bad dream, a nightmare.
Burke got shot, and now his hand was all messed up. Denny almost died (thanks to the bright idea of cutting his LVAD wire). The chief's niece was dying of cancer, and so was Doc. It was all a disaster, a nightmare everyone wanted to wake up from.
Messy. Death was Messy.
The sky was starting to brighten up when Denny survived. Izzy's decision to cut the LVAD wire, paid off. He had a new heart; he was going to live.
The calm before the storm.
Due to this decision (made by Izzy), the whole group of interns were affected. The surgical junkies were now prohibited from performing any kind of surgery until they confessed. They needed to confess, or rather, snitch on the one who cut the LVAD wire. But who snitched? No one. They were all a family after all. They couldn't do that to each other. All for one, one for all.
Instead, they got a prom to plan as a punishment. The prom would be for the chief's niece. The young girl was diagnosed with cancer 3 years ago, and supposedly some doctors were able to get the cancer out before it spread. But, life isn't fair, so the cancer made its way back. Which is why this prom had to be perfect. It could be her last prom. Ever.
And what a better team to plan it than the surgical dream team. Should be an easy task right? Get the chief's niece everything she wanted. Easy.Nope.
-"Not to bother you, but..." O'Malley tried to say to Bailey before she turned around from looking at a patient's chart, while she stood next to one of the nurses stations. "WHAT?!" She interrupted. She was more than annoyed with her interns. "One of you better spit out the problem right now." She barked at the group of interns standing before her.
"The problem is the colors and- and the balloons and the "under the sea". No, it's "titanic". Hey let's go with 'tears in heaven'. No, that's too morbid. It should be pink, it should be red, it should be a freakin rainbow..."Karev angrily imitated the friends of the chief's niece. "What he's saying is that we're very, very hopeful that you speak girl." O'Malley cuts into Alex's ranting speech. For the interns luck, Bailey spoke girl perfectly. She was once again helping her group of interns get out of trouble. Even though that was kind of her job, she was not happy about it.
The theme and color was set. Everyone knew about the prom that was going to take place that night. Everyone had to go, no excuses.
The planning was great, thanks to Bailey's leadership. Meredith barely had to do anything. All she needed was a date, and well, she could only invite one person to the prom. And that was Finn, of course. He loved the idea of having a Prom.
Yeah, he was one of those kids in high school.
Derek invited Addison, she of course said yes. Who wouldn't say yes to Mcdreamy?
Everyone had a date, everything was set. Meredith and Cristina had quickly purchased a pair of dresses from some store. Nothing too special, it was a hospital Prom after all. No reason to buy a fancy dress. Plus, they didn't really do the whole dress thing, not their style.
On the other hand, there was Addison. Who went to her favorite, extremely expensive, and fancy stores to purchase a dress. She only brought the things necessary to survive in Seattle for a few weeks, and going to a Prom was definitely not in her plans. So she went shopping...alone. She found shopping by herself quite therapeutic. Or that's what she liked to think, to make up the fact that she had no one to do it with. She was alone, even though she had Derek, she felt alone. Her only company now, was Doc. But he too would leave her soon.
His cancer had spread to his brain and there was nothing left to do. The best thing was to put him to sleep.
