Welcome...Not!
The next morning Caroline woke up 20 minutes before everyone woke up. She was going to pull a prank on Ryan to even things out.
Last night she chose between 2 pranks, and she finally chose a prank.
"It's going to get him for good." Caroline whispered.
She tip-toed quietly to the closet and took out a roll of extra strong duct tape and went to Ryan's room. As quiet as a mouse, she did the prank as carefully as possible. When she finished she tip-toed away and placed the duct tape back in the closet and went to her bedroom, and lied on her bed.
A few minutes later Ryan screamed, and Caroline guessed that Ryan found out about the prank.
She giggled silently but managed to stop, but decided against it. She was going to get caught anyways, right? So, why try to stuff her giggles? She laughed out loud, but not so loud that their neighbor would hear her.
"Who did this!" Ryan raged.
Caroline got up and went into his part of the room and laughed.
"You!" He said with a finger pointing at her, "You will pay for this!" He tried to get out of bed but couldn't.
"Too bad you didn't go to the military yesterday." Caroline replied.
"What's all this fuss?" Mom ordered.
"She taped me to my bed!" Ryan answered, typically annoyed.
"Because he didn't go to the military yesterday becuase he wants to bug me at home some more! He already knows I'm so tense about Dad and Steven going and maybe even dying and he's adding even more problems for me! As for being an older brother, he should consider his sisters feelings!"
"We-"Ryan started.
"That's enough! Caroline, that was wrong of you to tape your brother to his bed no matter how disrespectful he is towards you. For the next 20 minutes, get him out." Mom chided.
Ryan smirked.
"How come Ryan doesn't get a punishment for ruining my life?" Caroline grumbled while getting a scissor.
"Hey, be careful!" Ryan reminded.
"Stop talking back to me." Mom said. "My friend is supposed to come today. She will stay in the girls room with me. You will have to stay here in the boys room for the next few months, Caroline. I'm sorry, I know your conflict between you and Ryan but you have to control it and get along for the next few months, okay? We can't have a guest staying in the same room as Ryan, according to his rude manners." When she said manners, she glared at Ryan with a sterned face. " When Caroline is in the boys room, she will teach you to have some manners to meet the future guests and this one."
Caroline nodded and thought "Rats. How can my life get any worse? First, Ryan is staying at home instead of being at the military, cutting this tape, and now staying in the same room as him and teaching him manners! What if he looks in my diary? What is he snores so loud?"
The doorbell rang and Mom hurried towards the stairs to the door. Caroline heard greetings, tea, and those other adult stuff. Then, she came. Her eyes were blue (very rare), her coat was soft, her leggings were perfect, her hair was in a bun... She was divine.
"This is Caroline?" the lady guessed.
"Yes, remember the picture?" Mother replied.
"How darling she is." mothers friend gushed.
Caroline said thank you and Ryan rolled his eyes.
"The?" mothers friend asked.
"Oh, this is Ryan."
Ryan rolled his eyes in annoyance that mothers friend recognized Caroline and not him.
"This is Auntie Jen." Mother introduced.
"You are pretty!" Caroline splerted.
Aunt Jen and mom laughed.
"Would you and Ryan help the factory make equipment for the military?" Aunt Jen asked. "2 little helpers would make a difference."
They both nodded.
"Splendid! Caroline, wear this." Aunt Jen said, tossing her a skirt and t-shirt. "You, this." she said with a uniform in her hand. Ryan winced, with Caroline smiling.
They went to the place and got introduced and started working right away. It wasn't that bad gathering equipment. Ryan had to build part of the gun.
