you and rae hit it off pretty well after just chatting in front of the gas station, but you felt it was time to switch it up a bit and head out. you asked her if she wanted to go to the park nearby, see if there's any fun to be had there. the two of you wandered over, sipping on your now shared coffee and snacks, arriving with a total sugar high and laughing your heads off about some shared interest you two had.

you peer around the park for something to do, finding a playset, pointing it out to your counterpart and beginning the walk over.

"so, rae, what do you do for fun?" you ask, trying to get a conversation going.

"uh, well, i play a lot of games, mostly with my friends. it's kind of my thing." she responds, almost hesitantly. you don't think much of it.

you smile. "hey, i do that too!" you exclaim, "what type of games? personally, fps stuff, rpgs, and strategy games are kind of my thing." oh lord, here you go talking about games. she probably thinks you're weird.

rae lights up. "really? me too! if you want, we could try that out sometime, you play valorant?" she asks, trying to find common ground.

"yeah!" you grin, "if you're free any time this week, i'll be on at night almost any night you'd want to play, if you'd like."

you two keep walking, witty banter exchanging between the two of you, and you arrive at a swing set. you look to her and she motions to sit, and you do. the two of you swing in a peaceful silence, the comfort of each other already present even if you had just met thirty minutes prior. you, being you, are already sneaking little peeks at her, acknowledging to yourself that, hey, she's pretty cute.

the warm air, you've noticed, isn't as warm as it was, for some reason. probably a cold draft, but you look to her and see she's beginning to shiver a little. stopping your swing, your shoes kicking up some dirt-colored bark, you remove your jacket, and she takes notice, her eyes lighting up a little.

"you seem chilly, you want my jacket?" you offer, holding your jacket out on one hand, your other keeping you stable on the rickety swing set.

with a small giggle, she nods and accepts the jacket, your eyes diverting to some tall trees in the park. you hear her make a little 'oo' sound and you turn to look at her, getting slightly flushed as you think oh jeez, she looks good in that. you shake your head, trying to rid the thoughts of this girl you just met, no time to start falling for strangers.

"y/n?" you hear from rae, abruptly throwing your mind out of dream world.

you fidget a little, "yeah?" you hesitantly response, wondering if she's a mind reader or something.

she starts swinging again, finally getting the jacket on just the way she wants it, warming up enough to move against the wind. "i've never connected with someone like this before, i don't think."

"oh, well i don't think i have either," you say with a small sigh of relief, "i've always had my friends, who i do bounce off pretty well, but i've never hit it off with someone like this."

with a smile, she turns to you, "that's what i was thinking. i've had a lot of friends in my lifetime, even relationship partners. never once i've immediately had this, uh, connection with someone. i don't mean that in a weird way, of course."

you let out a laugh. "you're fine. i think you're really good at conversation, rae, and that's what brought me out of my little shell. i love my friends, but their conversations, and god their texts, get really stale really quick. you're, well, a good change of pace." you smile back at her, and you two already understand when a topic is done and when a good one starts.

the two of you go back to silently swinging, taking in the refreshing air and atmosphere of the park, the sounds of metal clanging together not breaking the immersion into your nice co-existence with her. you begin to get a little cold without a jacket, but you pay no attention to it. you're perfectly fine being a tad colder if your new friend is alright.

after a little while, though, you come to a stop. she seems to just about be done as well, following you in getting off the swing set, the two of you stretching out your legs after sitting down for a while. she looks over to you, patiently waiting to see if you had anything else planned.

"wanna get going? i know we're having a lot of fun, but we should probably call it at some point." you offer, seeing the sun peak over the horizon, taunting you two for staying up so late.

she nods, her expression turning to a little sad, but accepting of the expectations that two grown adults probably shouldn't be at the park, talking nonsense and swinging until the sun rises. "yeah. if you want, i can walk you home, but don't feel obligated to say yes. i'm sure you can only handle so much of me." rae offers, a little hopeful.

you light up a little, happy to share some more time with her, "i'd love to!" wait, you probably sound like a creep. a hyper, giddy creep. "i mean, uh, sure. sorry, got a little excited. i'd enjoy the company, rae."

for some reason, hearing you say her name made rae crack a smile, and upon seeing this, you got a small rush in your head, mentally noting to try to say it more. you and rae walk all the way back to your place, but the two of you definitely slowed down your pace to spend more time together and talk more. the more the two of your talked, the more things in common you two seemed to have. you enjoyed having her around.

eventually, you two arrived at your place, bringing down you mood a little, but you still wanted to say goodbye. "i'll see you later, rae?"

she nodded. "of course!" she said with a big smile, then grabbing a small piece of paper out of her pocket, handing it to you. "you said you wanted to play valorant, right? that's my discord."

"oh yeah! sorry, i forgot about that." you anxiously say, hoping she won't see you as forgetful and rude. "i'll definitely add you, though!"

she gives you one last smile, nodding, then turns around and begins to walk away. she makes it a few feet away before stopping abruptly to yell out to you, "bye, y/n! you're cute!"

you smiled at her goodbye, then tensing up at the compliment. she runs off, her small figure seeming to go as fast as it possibly could. you begin to smile like a maniac, unlocking your door and walking inside your place, taking off your shoes and making your way to your bed, an ear-to-ear grin plastered on your face, understanding one thing.

you're gonna sleep well tonight.

(a/n: sorry for the late update! thank you for the support and the kind words! hope you enjoy the fluff between you two :D)
