Diagon Alley had always radiated peaceful chaos. Even as students rushed through the old cobblestone streets with their brand new wands and furry pets, bumping into each other and shouting about the latest broom or the coolest quill, there was still something so familiar — so calming — about coming here.

Especially on September the first.

You had always admired the small shops with their large bay windows, displaying everything new that they had in store for the upcoming Hogwarts year. You dearly missed attending the school yourself, but that didn't mean you couldn't come by and peek around. You figured you could live vicariously through the hoard of students, right?

It had been quite a few years since your graduation. About two years before the war began. You were thankful you got the chance to finish your education and start a good life, but your heart still aches for those who didn't get said chance. The Wizarding World had taken such a toll, and as selfish as it was, you felt incredibly fortunate that you got to complete your education before tremendous chaos had occurred.

But luckily now, several good years later, things were back in full swing. Stores were back to being bright and busy, and kids were happy to be returning — or starting — school. People filled the narrow streets and smiled as they walked along, pointing into windows and venturing off into crowded stores to peek around.

"Oh, sorry, miss," a young voice called out and interrupted your dilly-dallying after you felt a large thump in your side. You looked down, facing a young boy with a recognizable yellow Hufflepuff tie around his neck. His cheeks were bright pink, and his heavy bag of Hogwarts books seemed to weigh more than him.

"It's no problem," you replied with a smile, watching as he took off through the crowd with a toad sitting on his shoulder. You shook your head, chuckling to yourself, and began to continue your aimless walk.

As a large orange store came into your view, you stopped in your tracks and stared up at it, your heart rising in your throat as you could feel the colour slightly drain from your face.

Weasley's Wizard Wheezes.

Fred's store. The one he had left you for. The one he uprooted his entire life for.

You were proud of him for accomplishing his dreams — sure, of course. But to this day, you still had no clue why he had to break up with you to go fulfil them.

It was rather odd, you thought, staring up into the giant, robotic face of your ex-boyfriend who was statued above the shop entrance. He had been your whole life at one point — and now here he was. Just a large figurine in front of a store.

Your curiosity was piqued after watching a group of fourteen, maybe fifteen year old kids exit said store with large smiles on their faces and heavy bags in their hands.
