The heavy rain pattered against the floor-to-ceiling windows that donned the front of the shop and caused an echo of rain to sound its way throughout the building. For a grey, rainy day, Diagon Alley was relatively busy. Made sense, as the start of Hogwarts was pretty much right around the corner. There was hardly a moment of peace and quiet, but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. This was the time of year when the shop made the most money.

Kids and teenagers were laughing and buzzing about with their friends, intrigued by pretty much every item on the shelves. You couldn't blame them, to be fully honest. You remembered the first time Fred showed you the place — you could hardly contain your smile. It was like a whole new introduction to magic.

And now, two years into marriage, that feeling hadn't changed. You didn't necessarily work at the store, but you did love to hang around and help out where you could. Especially now, being on maternity leave, you didn't really have much else to do. Fred insisted that you stay home and rest, but at the same time, he didn't like the thought of you being alone all day so close to your due date.

So, here you were again, sitting at the counter with a book in your hands trying your best to focus on the words, what with all the noise in the shop and all. You were about to give up on your chapter when a small voice caught your attention.

"Excuse me, miss?"

You turned to your right and your sights landed on a young boy, standing there with one of his hands tugging your sleeve, and his big blue eyes looking slightly terrified.

"Yes?" you asked, marking your page with your bookmark and placing the book on the countertop. This young boy couldn't be older than five, and you were wondering what he was doing without an adult standing next to him. But by the look on his face, you were able to decipher that he was probably lost.

"I can't find my mum," he pouted, eyes trying to scan the room, but with his height he wasn't at much of an advantage.

You immediately sat up straighter, placing a hand on his shoulder, "Oh, here, let's go look for her together, yeah?"

He nodded and let go of your sleeve, his little fingers interlocking with each other — a sign of nerves. You were currently on an elevated platform, so you had a better view of the store. You could see the tops of heads, and your eyes immediately tried to find a woman who would most likely be in complete and utter panic.

"What colour hair does she have?" you leaned down to ask him, struggling to keep your balance with the size of your belly.

"Brown," he muttered, his eyes getting a little watery. Your heart sank in your chest. This wasn't the first time a kid had lost their parent in the midst of the chaos in here, but it never got easier to deal with. Especially now, with motherhood right around the corner for you.

"Hey, hey, it'll be alright," you gave him a smile, "She's not going to go anywhere without you. She's probably looking for you too."

He didn't say anything else, but gave you a little nod. He held such sadness in his eyes and it really did break your heart — you couldn't imagine how his mum must be feeling right now, not being able to find her child.

"What's going on here?"

You turned over to face the direction of Fred's voice that was coming up the steps, keeping eye level with the boy in front of you.
