It's been hours since Ms. Lee left Eli alone in her classroom. The girl spent a couple hours cleaning the room leaving it spotless with little dust or stains visible to the naked eye. Eli figured with the amount of time she spent hiding in the room, she may as well keep it clean for her own comfort.
An hour into cleaning the room, Eli found a first aid kit underneath the teacher's desk. She figured that would be the best time to wrap her thumb in place since she didn't get the chance to go the the hospital yet for cast. The girl had to admit she was dreading the visit not because she hated the hospital (Ms. McCall being her favorite nurse to be around) but she didn't need the hospital bill that came after each visit. The girl knew her uncle was already struggling keeping his small bakery open, and another bill from the hospital was the last thing the man needed even if he was used to Eli's monthly visits.
Eli currently sat at a stool in the back of the room while painting a very obscure image of a family at the park. The girl didn't know if she was projecting, but she attempted to paint a family with the father grilling, mother smiling, and two kids playing catch. The image was so artificially sweet, Eli herself wanted to vomit at the possibility of a family being this happy. Eli turned her head. slightly to the right trying to see if she squinted enough if the black blob in the corner resembled Jinx enough.
Before Eli could attempt to fix the dismembered looking image of the cat, the screeching of a whiny cat echoing through the empty halls of the school stopped the teen girl. She instantly cringed at the painful sound not knowing what the fuck it was. She didn't even realize someone would still be there at this time of the night thinking if this was a prank it was a damn stupid one. She glanced up at the rooster shaped clock on Ms. Lee's desk and noticed the time said 9 o'clock. The girl never realized she was there that late and was surprised a janitor didn't find her at this point.
Eli slowly sat up and began to stretch her muscles out. Feeling a pop in her back, she smiled in satisfaction at the feeling of her loosened joints. Before she could grab her jacket that hung on a hook behind her, she heard a second sound, something that caused chills to run up and down her spine. Eli didn't know what made it, but it was an animalistic howl that rattled throughout the school even causing the lockers out in the hall to vibrate. Eli herself felt her blood pumping just a bit faster at the sound, and she wasn't sure if this was due to fear or excitement. The booming of it felt so alive she didn't believe it could be from a premade audio recording.
The curiosity of what it could be invaded Eli's mind to the point she had to know exactly what was there in the school with her. As Eli slowly made her way around the room, she gathered all her things before slipping her jacket back on. With her light purple backpack secured on her back, she walked over to the lights and turned them all off and gently closed the classroom door behind her. Looking up and down the dark hallway, she decided to take her phone out to use as a makeshift flashlight.
