40 - Legally Wrong

Dorms.
Stupid shared housing.
If telling the class of my past wasn't going to be stressful enough, the added weight of moving into a shared living space with 20 or so other people would give a normal person an anxiety attack. The best part was why I had to move in earlier; to determine whether the soundproofing the school provided in my bedroom walls was sufficient.

Can't have the screaming waking everyone else up.

Aizawa and I weren't happy to leave our home, especially with the loss of Echo. It was the day we moved in privately to the dorms that Echo appeared beside me in bed, their beady black eyes screaming an apology. The class already adored the furry nightmare, so there was no argument to why Echo couldn't live in the dorms too.
Aizawa was cleared to work again and was welcomed back gladly. The other teachers teased the happy financés on their engagement whilst I poked fun at their wedding plans with Midnight.

"Rainbow ribbons everywhere." I decided at dinner, my Dad's rolling their eyes in between mouthfuls of soup. Midnight cleared her throat.
"Actually, Shota is Bi, " She grinned slyly, "So purple tux for the blonde and Blue hair for you." She  booped my nose playfully.
"Can't we just go to city hall." Zawa grumbles, reaching for another juice pouch. Zashi frowns.
"C'mon Sho-" He whines, carrying his empty bowl to the kitchen sink, "I wanna have a party."
"I don't." Dadzawa mumbles. Midnight coughs awkwardly.
"Students will be arriving tomorrow." She changes the topic quickly and I groan, knowing that after everyone is settled I have to explain. It isn't scary, just annoying. All the talking last week with Mina and Kiri tired me out. I'm not afraid of my past, because it's over.

New chapter and all that bullshit.

"You'll be fine." Zashi calls reassuringly from the kitchen. "Besides, Mina already told everyone about your engagement." I smile in return, remembering the day we went to convince her parents on the idea of school dormitories.

It was warmer today, although the thick scarf wrapped around my neck could've been a benefactor. Zashi, Dad and I trudged up the pavement scattered with leaves. Mina's  house hasn't changed much, the cherry blossoms by her front door are still as vibrant as ever, the brass door handle warm from the sun. We knocked, which was pointless,  Mina yanked the door open eagerly and immediately. I was practically dragged inside with my parents trailing behind me, greeting Mina's parents whilst I endured the constant hyperactive chatter from my best friend.
Mina scooted off the couch gracefully to allow for my parents to sit down either side of me. It only took Mina a second, a quick glimpse of the shiny gold band resting on Zawa's hand and the soft holding of Zashi's hand in mine, for her to squeal.

"She did overreact." Zashi laughs from the kitchen again. I groan, dumping my plate in the dishwasher before joining a very excited Midnight in the bathroom. I gave up on maintaining my hair, so Midnight vowed to cut it when I slept.
I compromised.
"Let's begin!" She grins wickedly at me, wielding the scissors and hairbrush like a madman.
"I want it short again." I remind her, "And spunky." She rolls her eyes before starting. In the end, it looked awesome.

A loud banging of footsteps and voices is my cue to ride the elevator down. Echo purrs on my shoulders, sitting perched like an ominous furry bird. I glance at my reflection in the mirror, my spunky hair shorter than last time but still fabulous.
Ding!
The elevator doors open and I step out to see the shocked faces of my classmates.
"Hello." I giggle, "My name is-"
A crash of limbs and voices assault me and I laugh loudly.
"Get off me." I complain lightheartedly, shoving the piles of gangly limbs from my still recovering body. I recognise Katsuki as one of the people pinning me to the floor.
"Can we talk later?" Katsuki all but growls into my ear quietly.
"Hello to you too." I playfully nip his earlobe, in which he blushes an impressive shade of violet.
I sit up from the floor to see my friends, my gorgeous friends who deserve the biggest explanation.
I sigh, before trying (and failing) to stand. Shouto pulls me to my feet, keeping his hands on my waist as if I'll leave again.
"Thank you, Sho." He winks at me, guiding me to the couch. I shove him down on the cushion and gesture for everyone to follow.
"I wanted to wait until you settled in.." I start, whilst my classmates clamber along the long green couch, some squished between others and some lying across the floor happily, "But it seems you all deserve better." Echo leaps off my shoulders faintly as Zawa fiddles with the TV remote behind me.
To put the goddamn slideshow on, the one with all the scary photos and proof of my 'Childhood.'
"I have a lot of scars."
"No shit." Denki blurts out, causing me and some others to giggle.
"Exactly. But I didn't have a great upbringing." Twenty pairs of angry eyes glare at Zawa before I realise my mistake.
"Before I met Dad." I correct, "I was a victim of what is called Quirk Handling." The majority of faces are confused, but some faces look shocked.
"What's that?" Mineta squawks from behind a layer of Sero's tape.
I'll thank Sero for the gag later.
"Quirk Handling is illegal torture usually conducted in abandoned buildings of significant meaning. The Handlers are usually anti-hero or unhappy with the answers provided by medical professionals regarding quirks." Iida says, turning to me for confirmation. I nod.
"Holy fuck." Mineta squeaks, Sero tales another layer of tape over the mummified grape before giving me a thumbs up.
"As you know, I have a strong quirk, and it's unknown why. Which didn't help all the questions the handlers had such as where quirks came from."
I nod to Zawa, who turns on the slideshow. The first image is the asylum, from a few days ago.
"This is where we found Y/N, when she was little." Zawa starts his part.
"Myself and other heroes caught wind of an illegal underground system of what we believed was Human Trafficking. It was, actually, Quirk Handling. The plan was set, we infiltrated the building smoothly to find more dead than alive." Zawa's face is pinched, but the class is quiet and attentive.
Respectful.
"I was rescued there a few days ago. Again." I chuckle, "But this time I escaped, and I wasn't a hostage." Katsuki gapes like a fish at this, and I shake my head pleadingly. That is a whole different conversation.
"This time I found out my birth parents and why I was originally held there." The class is still dead silent.
Zawa changes the image to a picture of a girl lying strapped to a table.
Thankfully I was clothed in that image...
"My birth father is All for One." I brace myself for the questions. Tsuyu raises her hand.
"Did he hurt you again?" She asks, curiously. I shake my head.
"I jumped out a window, which is why my shoulder is broken." The class snickers and I laugh quietly too.
"I wanted to tell you guys about All for One now, so that it won't hurt our careers later. Which is also why I should tell you that I am changing my name." The class murmurs at this, confused.
"I don't want to be known as Y/N because it's not fair to me or my career. Y/N is scared of hospitals and scared of living. Y/N was a child tortured by Villains and barely scraping by in her classes." 1A, my family, smiles.
