She had only just woken up when she heard the soft sound of knocking on the door. She was definitely not ready to face anyone just yet, so she called out, asking them to wait. It could be Calum, and she didn't want him to see her looking like a zombie.
She fixed her hair and pulled on a white top with spaghetti strops. She rubbed her eyes sleepily and yawned. "Come in," she called.
Calum walked in through the door with two cups of coffee in his hands. He passed one of them onto her, and sat down next to her. "Good morning," he said, a cheerful smile on his face. She nodded, and yawned again.
Calum laughed at her, and she frowned, taking a sip of her coffee. It tasted sweet, not like the coffee she had gotten in the hosital. The hospitals coffee tasted bitter and strong, and Bailey had figured out that she did not like strong coffee.
This, however, was just to her taste, and she thanked Calum for bringing it to her. "No problem; I was craving coffee, and thought you'd like some," he beamed, sending her a smile. He was becoming happier and more cheerful, and it made her heart flutter just looking at him.
"I'm sorry I didn't bring you any books. I couldn't find any in our apartment" he said. She shrugged her shoulder, sending him a smile. She didn't mind. She had been going out into the garden a lot lately, and she had met a lot of new people. That would never have happened if she had had her books.
"It's fine, really," she told him. "I can always read Jane Eyre when Lily finishes it." Calum furrowed his brows, and sent her a questioning look.
"Who's Lily?
"A friend."
"You have friends?"
"I made one."
He smiled. Calum grabbed her hand and interlaced their fingers. He nodded his head, as if to tell her 'good.' She returned his smile, and gave his hand a squeeze. "By the way, how did the tests go?"
She scrunched up her face, remembering the horrible weekend of tests. Especially the needles, oh god the needles. That had been the worst part. "Am I afraid of needles?" She looked at him, tilted her head a bit to the side.
He nodded his head. "Big time. Well you used to be," he said. She grimaced, nodded her own head, and suddenly remembered the tattoo. Why did she get it if she didn't like needles? Didn't getting a tattoo involve a needle?
"Calum why do I have a tattoo of a feather?" she asked. Calum smiled. It quickly turned into a grin. "I have one too," he said. Bailey smiled. Then he started taking off his shirt, and the smile turned into an embarrassed face.
She turned her face so she couldn't see him, and she heard a low chuckle coming from Calum. "It's not the first time you've seen me shirtless, Bailey, don't act so embarrassed." She shrugged.
"It might not be the first time, but I can't remember anything, not even seeing you shirtless," she said. She rubbed her neck, still kind of embarrassed. "To me, the me that I am now, it's actually the first time."
Calum smiled. He grabbed her hand again, and but it on his bare chest, just underneath the feather tattoo on his right collarbone. He hooked his under hand under her chin, and turned her head to look at him. Her eyes widened when she saw the tattoo. It looked exactly like hers.
She looked down, her own tattoo was visible just above the neck of her shirt. She smiled at him. "Why did we get these?" she asked.
Calum's smile grew bigger, and Bailey could feel his heart starting to beat faster. It felt odd, but it made her feel safe somehow.
"Because the world is a dark and heavy place, but when we're together we're weightless; like a feather."
Bailey stared at him for what felt like forever, but was probably just a few seconds. Thoughts were racing through her head. She knew that her and Calum were close, but were they really that close? Or was he just incredibly good with words?
They had matching tattoos. She wouldn't have gotten one with him if she hadn't loved him, right?
She laughed, and threw herself into his arms. She rested her head right above his heart, and she could hear the steady beat of it. It calmed her down, and she started to think. Ever since she first met Calum again, she knew that she had loved him. That she used to love him a lot, actually. She never thought she'd still love him.
Her body remembered his, and he knew every corner of her mind, down to the very last thought. Was this what love was?
