Chapter 18

 The man looked the same, except for some minor differences. For one, his hair was longer. It was parted down the middle and fell just below his ears. Two, he had a psychotic youthfulness to him, even though he was in his late twenties. When Alex had last seen him, he still had a murderous glow, but it was aged. Right now he was in his prime killing years. Other than that the man appeared the exact same.

"So much power," the man nuzzled his nose into the crook of Alex's neck-smelling him. He could smell the magic inside Alex. Shit. The man's face turned to shock. "You have soomeras in you and," he sniffed again. "Something else," Alex tried to wriggle free. The man's grip was too tight, he was too strong. The man tightened his grip with one hand and used the other to trace veins on Alex's throat. Alex could barely hear it over the pounding in his head, but the man was humming. Humming as he toyed with Alex. Alex swore he heard the words, "so pretty". Then he bit back a scream when the man sunk his teeth into his throat. Then he was dropped to the ground.

The man clutched his own throat as he gagged. Red blood, Alex's blood, dripped from the man's mouth. Alex gripped his neck to stop the bleeding, but it had already clotted due to the power in vampire saliva. The man regained himself and surged to Alex. He grabbed Alex again.

"What are you?" he snarled. He bit him again, then gagged again. "Why can I not taste your magic?" The man growled. Then it hit Alex. The reason why Hope and the soomeras had hidden in him because he was immune to magic stealers. A terrible boldness flooded Alex, especially when he saw Leonna rising.

"Fuck you," then Alex spat in his face. The man sneered, but he dropped Alex. Leonna had already thrown multiple swords, all of them emerged from portals, skewering the man in various ways.

"We need to go," Leonna grabbed Alex's wrist in warning when they heard the Captain's search party nearing their tent. She opened a portal, Alex and Leonna threw Leo, Serina and Jade through. Alex turned one last time to flip the man off. He was startled when he saw the man smiling at him and his wounds healing over.

They tumbled out of the portal into Leonna's house. Serina, Jade and Leo were beginning to wake. Leonna and Alex had heaving breathing as they attempted to recover from what happened.

"He bit you," Leonna grabbed Alex's neck in a concerned manner. She continued to speak in his language "How much magic did he steal?" her eyes swelled with worry.

"None," he breathed. Her hands pulled away from the puncture marks.

"How? As soon as they break the surface magic pulls to them like a magnet. It's instant, no delay," she said.

"That's my magic," he tried to explain. "Magic stealers can't touch me," Leonna's eyes widened in shock.

"Incredible," she breathed.

"Also I need a favor," Alex asked. She nodded. "I need you to take me to the meddus," she wrinkled her brow, trying to understand the sentences he just spoke. She got the idea.

"What for?"

"I need their horn shavings," he answered. Leonna nodded, she didn't ask anymore questions. At this point Leo, Serina and Jade had fully awakened. Leonna opened a portal and they were transported to the front of the castle.

"How come we didn't go straight to them?" Jade asked.

"There's a magic block where they are kept," Leonna answered.

"I told you they'd come here!" the five turned to see the rest of the group bickering by a light post. An angry Luna stormed up to them. Serina furrowed her brow.

"Wait how are you?-" she began to question.

"Oh the little box you planted, clever," Luna sneered. Serina waited for the answer to her question. "I usually plug my ears at night since they are so sensitive. All the noise they pick up makes it hard to sleep," she had an aggressive tone.
