Set after Please. Hopefully the video on the side will work but it's the first time I've put one in so there's a strong chance of it going wrong.

Arthur waited until Gwaine had disappeared before turning to Merlin.

"What were you doing?" His voice was quiet but there was no mistaking the anger, despair and betrayal beneath the cool tone.

"It wasn't like that..."

"Then what was it like?!" Arthur's voice shot up. Merlin struggled to keep his voice even.

"Gwaine brought Marina to me. He thought maybe I could bring her back. He was right. What you saw...that was nothing. He was just relieved that it had worked."

"It didn't look like nothing..." Arthur turned to the window, fighting back the tears of frustration. Merlin put placed his hand on his shoulder. Arthur stiffened at his touch but didn't pull away. A part of him still wanted to believe Merlin.

"Arthur, how can I make you believe me?" Merlin asked softly.

"You can't," Arthur looked back at him. "I loved you Merlin, and I always thought you reciprocated those feelings, but now, with Gwaine... I just don't know anymore..."

"Yes you do. You know I'll always love you. You're just choosing not to believe it."

"No I'm not, Merlin! I thought I knew you but apparently I was wrong!"

"No you weren't! I wouldn't ever hurt you, especially not like this!" Both men were shouting now, not caring about the noise.

"You already have."

Merlin sighed in exasperation. "Why can't you just trust me?!"

"Because of what I saw!"

"That was nothing, okay! He kissed me. You can ask him, he'll tell you that!"

"That doesn't matter Merlin. All that matters is it happened and I'm not sure about anything anymore. I'm sorry if I'm not strong enough to believe you right now but you can't expect me to be fine with what I saw."

"Are you really so insecure that you'll let this ruin our relationship?"

"Apparently so." Merlin felt the anger fade, only to be replaced by a fear stronger than any he had ever known. He was terrified at the thought of losing Arthur.

"Mordred's already gone." Merlin said, hoping that it would persuade Arthur against calling off the engagement.

"Then I suppose a lot of people are going to be disappointed to find that they travelled here for nothing."

"Arthur, please, don't..."

"I'm sorry. It's over." he said coldly.

Merlin stepped back, not trusting himself to speak. Arthur didn't even look at him as he left Merlin standing alone.

They didn't know it would be impossible for either one of them to fix their broken heart whilst the other still held a piece in their hand.
