The earliest version of Kermit appear in 1955 on Sam and Friends, Jim Henson's original five-minute puppet show. Kermit was first referred to as a frog in 1965 on a Tonight Live show appearance.
In 1968 Kermit was given a makeover, making his originally rounded feet into flippers, and giving him a fringed collar with thirteen points.
Kermit sported a double-collar for some of the 1970s and early seasons of sesame street. But as he became the host of the muppet show this collar was dropped and replaced with an eleven pointed collar that he still wears today.
Kermit appeared in the Sesame Street News Flash segments as a reporter in many early seasons of Sesame Street. He has performed many songs on air and some of the more notable ones are Bein' Green, This Frog, On My Pond, and Caribbean Amphibian.
Kermit is also seen in his home on Sesame Street where Grover tries to sell him something he doesn't need, for example Earmuffs and A toothbrush.
Unlike most Sesame Street characters Sesame Workshop never had any ownership over Kermit. This is why Kermit is rarely seen in any merchandise, books, and only a few songs have been put in sesame street albums. Now the rights to Kermit are owned by The Walt Disney Company, but currently there is an agreement that Sesame Workshop can use old Kermit segments in their home video and DVD productions. Kermit made his first appearance on Sesame Street since Disney got the rights to the Muppets in the season 40 premier episode.
In 1970 critics said that Kermit had become too commercialized and they planned to drop the character from the show. But that turned out not to be true, because Kermit came back as a full-time character in the third season.
Kermit has appeared in many Sesame Street specials, including but not limited to:
Elmo Saves Christmas, Elmopalooza, CinderElmo, 20 and Still Counting.
Mr. Noodle
Mr. Noodle appears in the segment Elmo's World. He is a mute character and lives behind the shade in Elmo's world. Elmo will ask Mr. Noodle to perform a task and he will inevitably get it wrong. But through trial and error, and repeated prompting he will eventually get it right.
Mr. Noodle appeared in season 30, then in season 31 Mr. Noodle was replaced by Mr. Noodle, Mr. Noodle's brother. The two Noodles then alternated or appeared together. Their sister, Ms. Noodle has appeared in various episodes along side Mr. Noodle.
