1996. War is brewing, on the brink of explosion. The Death Eaters' numbers and strength grows, enough for them to start emerging from the shadows they'd previously slunk in. Even the Ministry is struggling to deny Voldemort's existence — though they are certainly still trying. The battle at the Ministry has struck enough fear into the general public, starting to question the Ministry's lies.
Tom Riddle, who had been attempting to escape the war he'd been living through, finds himself thrust into the centre of a new one, in a world he knows little about. He is surrounded by people who treat him with contempt and distrust, expected to work with those who consider him a murderer, to save those who would sooner kill him than claim to hold any sort of alliance.
The only person to treat him like a human being is an almost similarly judged Amadeus Lestrange, son of infamously cruel Death Eaters, torn between the world he'd been raised in and the world that calls to him. Much like Tom, no one can seem to decide whether Amadeus is a friend or foe.
Tom Riddle was never meant to be the hero. A moral compass was a luxury he couldn't afford. But it seems fate has other plans for him.

Also Draco'll be getting his Halfblood subplot that I'll be giving some attention to.
This'll have a tentative relationship with canon where the skeleton of Halfblood Prince will be there but it's going to be heavily warped by Tom being at the centre.
