The fluorescent lights flickered. The room was empty except for the trio of people hanging back. The whole place seemed empty and devoid of life now that almost all of its occupants were deceased, and that the few living were leaving.

"Am I understood?" the one still sitting in the chair asked sharply.

The other two looked at the floor. "Yes sir."

"Good. Pink, leave. I wish to continue with your brother alone. You two can have your promised time together when we reach base."

The girl glanced at her older brother, apprehension in her gaze. He did not meet her eyes, only gestured towards the door.

She left without saying another word.

Silence pervaded the room. Then, "You're arm, Agent White."

White slowly raised his arm, pulling back his tattered sleeve with shaky hands. A tattoo, inked in black, stood out against his pale skin. It was faded, almost like pen faded off yellowed parchment.

Kiel pulled back his own sleeve, revealing a similar mark on his own right forearm. He pressed two fingers on White's arm, who flinched as the symbol flared up. It shone for a moment, before reverting to normal. Only now, the color was fresh.

It was the never-ending cycle. The reason no one ever escaped service to him. The reason no one betrayed him.

The reason Pink couldn't sneak out the vents of the compound at night.

The reason Black would never regain her freedom.

The reason Lime is so trusted by his boss.

The reason White hadn't attempted to commit suicide all the years he'd served Kiel.

The reason the crewmates were dead.

The reason the unsuspecting world was about to fall.

Once you were marked, you could never go back.
