adele ran into through the halls, the war still raged. the same smell stung her like it did in the forest. death.
a glorious perfume.
'ginny! ginny where are you?'
adele called out for her lover. any sign of life. any sign that the one thing that mattered to her hadn't wilted away with everything else ― everyone else.
it felt like an eternity before she found her, still calling her name.
for a moment, just a mere moment, everything had wilted away. only leaving them. just the two of them. the war had quieted, but the love for each other didn't.
it never would.
then, just as quickly as it had happened, everything came crashing down.
there was someone throwing blinding green light in their direction. they moved.
started a dance.
not the one they had shared many nights ago in their cabin, but one of a vicious cruelty. the partner just as destructive as the dance.
one step forward. one to the side.
the repeated the sequence, none of them dared to pull away.
cackling filled the air, so far from the little giggles adele wished she could hear at that moment. anything besides the screams that echoed on the stone.
then, they were stepping on each other's toes. dancing with two left feet.
they fell. and with it, they thought, the weight ― the burden ― they had carried.
just when they had grasped hands, holding onto each other in their last breaths, the dance stopped.
their assailant had backed away. wilted away.
adele wished she didn't enjoy the sight so much.
ginny, though, still held her hand until the final scream rang out.
