they drifted through the wind until they were outside the cabin they had become too familiar with.

when they stepped inside, it felt like the world was crashing ― falling ― down. everything seemed to. everything but their love.

the place that held so many memories. times when they had cried in each other's shoulders, embraced so unyielding it began to hurt. worshipped each other.

those were the nights they would remember. adele and ginny would remember everything; good, bad.

they would remember it all because they wouldn't be able to endure knowing anything else. how far they fell, how they were still falling.

they needed to know. that knowledge, besides each other, was all they had left to cling onto.

ginny had her back to adele, shoulders shaking slightly. she walked over. wrapped her arms around her waist and pulled ginny close against her chest.

'it's alright, gin. i'm here. we're here. it's over.'

the ginger's breathing got hysterical. chest expanding, falling. expanding. falling.

'i can't, adele. i-i can't, i'm s-sorry.' she spoke through falling tears.

'breathe, gin. that's all i need you to do.'

but even with the soft spoken whisper, the ginger's breath escaped her. she was falling down that rabbit hole of lies and promises. adele needed to reach in and pull her out, or fall with her.

adele pulled her tightly against her chest. 'match mine, darling. do you feel it.'

ginny nodded her head, pushing further back into adele. feeling the fall and rise.

'just focus on my breath ― on my voice. i'm here, ginny.'

slowly, she started to match the rise and fall of the witch behind her. her tears began to fall lightly, nearly nothing at all.

'good girl. that's it. keep doing that. in, out. in, out.'

ginny spun around, grasping onto adele once again. her body still trembled in her arms. adele ran her fingers up and down the girl's spine, soothing her.

ginny pulled away just enough to capture adele's lips. dancing a slow dance while the world ended. while everything fell.

moved against each other like it might be the last time, but they knew it never would be. they would never let go.

when the dance ceased, they stared into each other's eyes. ginny's burned through the ice of adeles.

'don't let go, adele.'

with a sigh, she rested her head atop ginny's.

'never.'
