chapter 12

*Time Jump: a week or so*

Erik had been busy with tryouts and practices the whole week so Lyle had been driving Julia home from school and were hanging out more often. This afternoon Lyle had challenged Julia to a sparring match because he thought his "Kay-ra-tay" as he jokingly said it skills were better. Julia was sure to prove him wrong.

Julia's PoV

Lyle threw an occasional stiff kick at me in an attempt to get lucky and beat me.

"Is that all you got Menendez" I said smirking at him mockingly

"Oh you wanna go Juls" he was smiling now "let's go" he picked me up at the waist and was holding me up.

"Lyle!! Let me down!!" I was giggling through my words

"Who's losing now huh" he was proud of himself obviously

"Lyle let me down!!" he put me down on the mat and started tickling me. "AHHH" I shriek and laughed as he continued "LYLEEEE" I was rolling around laughing trying to escape his tickles. Lyle himself was laughing too when suddenly he stopped tickling me and leaned down and kissed my lips. I was surprised but at the same time not, we had hung out so much in the past few weeks and had grown super close, I really liked him but I didn't know if he felt the same. I had got my answer. He pulled away after a few seconds.

"I-i'm sorry Juls I don't know what-" I stopped him by kissing him back and he smiled, but it was short lived.

"What.the.f*ck" Erik stood at the enterance of the gym, staring at me and Lyle. shit

"Shit" yep it deserved an out loud too

"Juls? What's wrong?" Lyle asked. Erik had started walking out of the gym and I was walking after him

"Nothing nothing"

"Juls??"

"Erik kissed me too Lyle, last- last week.." I realized what I had done and shame poured over me and I started running after Erik. I heard Lyle mumble a curse as a ran out, I had messed up this time... badly

"Erik! Please wait!" tears stung my eyes as I chased after him. What had I done

"I don't want to talk to you Julia" I probably should've respected that but I couldn't and continued after him. I got close enough and grabbed his wrist, he yanked it away and turned around. I saw he was hurt in his eyes even though he tried not to show it.

"What the hell were we?" he asked you his voice was soft and sad, you were mad at yourself for making him feel like this.

"Erik.." your voice wasn't close to steady as you had already been crying

"Cmon Juls" you let out a little sob when he said your name "tell m- tell me we weren't just friends" you weren't, but it was different between you and Lyle than with you and Erik... but you didn't know how to explain that to him. "This doesn't make any sense. I'm gone for a week and you snuggled up with my brother!? What's up with that huh!?" this time his voice was hurt but he was mad, his fists were clenched and the tone of his voice made you step back.. you knew Erik wouldn't hurt you, right? "I can't talk to you right now Juls" he said as he walked away. You were frozen in the middle of the hallway, not knowing what to say or do only being able to replay what had happened.

"Why hadn't you told me?" it was Lyle, he had come up from the gym and you weren't sure how long he had been there for.

"Lyle i'm- i'm sorry, I didn't think it was a big deal nothing else had happened." your voice was shaky "My life's a mess I shouldn't had dragged you into it now this with Erik, i'm really sorry." he walked up to you and hugged you, kissing you on the head.

"It's okay, i'm here, Erik will get over it he's strong" you were deep in his hug and let out a few tears, "Cmon let's get you to bed" it was only around 10ish but you were exhausted. Lyle turned on the shower for you and gave you a sweatshirt for after.

"I can stay if you want" he said after you were finished.

"I think I need to be alone tonight... im sorry Lyle" he came over and kissed you

"it's totally fine" he smiled and wished you goodnight then left.

You got into bed and Eriks words echoed in your head. You hadn't snuggled up with Lyle. You couldn't sleep for most of the night.
