"Y/N!" Ashton called out. He signaled me to join him by the table of beverages. He was talking to a couple of guys, but as soon as he called me, they left. "Go," Leah said. She pushed me in Ashton's direction. "Leah, no!" I stumbled forward and had no other choice but to walk to him. Ashton was wearing a white Nirvana shirt with ripped skinny jeans, a sweatshirt tied around his waist, and a pair of Docs that matched mine, except mine was dark reddish and his was black.

I gave him a tiny wave.

"Hey."

"Hey. Glad you made it."

"Leah basically made me."

"Glad she did."

He flashed me a charming smile. His dimples (that went for miles) showed. This guy was probably the boy of everyone's dreams. It was a shocker he was even talking to me. I smiled back at him, appreciating the fact that he liked having me around.

Me and Ashton continued to talk about music. Our discussion ranged from psychedelic music all the way to 90s rock. He was, if I could conclude, obsessed with Kurt Cobain.

"I'm pretty fucking sure the acid made their music better," I argued when we talked about The Beatles. "Yeah sure they are talented, but the acid took them places," I continued. Ashton giggled. "I guess you're right. The acid probably made them produce their greatest works."

"I've never heard you play. I want to hear it," he stated. It made me anxious. I have never really played for people before. The idea made me all nervous and jittery. My heart was racing and I felt like puking. It was like those times I would think about Judd, but worse because I was asked to perform in front of him. I hardly knew this guy. What if this is his opportunity to make fun of me and then once I get to Bridgeton High people will know me as the girl who claims she plays but she's just a pathetic and lame amateur who doesn't really know how to play?

"Uh..."

"No pressure. It's alright if you don't want to. You can play for me once you're comfortable enough," he smiled once again.

"Thanks, Ash." I let out a sigh of relief. HOLY BAZOINGA THIS BOY IS A DREAM!

"How about you hear me play?" Ashton offered.

"Sure!" I genuinely did want to hear him play. I wanted to get to know him better.

"Cool! I'll tell Val and Kurt that I'm borrowing their percussion room." He walked away from the table. I quickly grabbed a whole cup of tequila to ensure that I wasn't turning into a boring person. My social battery was running out just when the cutest boy ever wanted me to hear him play the drums.

"Calm down with the tequila!" Connie reminded me. "Connie, my battery is running out."

"Hey! You ready?" Ashton asked. I nodded and he took my hand into his. I was shocked at his move, but didn't budge.

He took me inside the house and we went upstairs into the percussion room. There was a drum kit and as soon as Ashton spotted it, he let go of my hand and took a seat behind them.

"Any special request, m'lady?"

I tapped my chin pretending to think. "The hardest drum solo you can think of."

"Aww shit."

"Mhmm," I hummed.

"Give me a minute," Ashton whispered.

"No pressure. Take your time. Or it's fine if you can't-"

"I can, I can. I'll show you."

Ashton took a deep breath, stretched out his hands, and took the drumstick into each hand. He took another deep breath. He started drumming like crazy. I could feel the beat of my heart pounding along to the drums. He was putting his everything into the drumming, like he was angry. It looked as if he unleashed his wrath onto the instrument.
