Everything was clear now. At least my mind was, I couldn’t say so for my surroundings though. I turned to face Edward, and I could see realization had hit him too.
“Pop Rocket is totally ruined… What should we do now?” I asked worriedly.
“But we survived… That’s what is important…” Edward muttered.
“But we’re stuck in this place! And we don’t even know where we are!”
“Never mind, we will eventually work it out… At least this gives us another adventure…” Edward tried to comfort me, but I was too occupied with fear and worry.
“No! This will not work out! The rocket is gone! How are we going to get back! Are you planning to SWIM back?” I was losing it, and I could not help but screamed at him, with tears streaming down my face.
“Come on…” Edward said, and hugged me to his chest.
I sobbed into his shirt, and regretted what I had said. I know he was feeling as helpless as me, but after all that screaming, he could still comfort me like this.
“I’m sorry Edward,” I sobbed, “I’m just so scared…”
“I understand, don’t worry, we’ll figure it out, we still have each other, remember that,” he said, burying his face into my hair.
We stayed like that for a couple of minutes. “Are we going to explore the place now?” I finally spoke, leaned back and forced a smile. I had to stay strong. For Edward. I couldn’t be a coward like I did a few minutes ago.
“If you think so… Let’s go” he grabbed my hand and went back to Pop Rocket; we found our fire and water-proof bags there. The contents were still usable. We then walked along the shore.
We remained silence for what felt like half an hour, both deep in thought. It was Edward who broke the silence this time.
“Hey, you remember the book? It says the place is an island. And THIS is an island. Do you think…” he trailed off suggestively.
I gasped, “No way we are this lucky! But if that’s true… The island should have a gigantic tree at the center…”
Edward didn’t speak but just turned and led me to the opposite of the shore. It was still foggy, so we couldn’t really see the tree. We reached the end of the sand and came to the edge of the forest. The forest looked very deep and creepy. I shivered.
“Since it’s dark and foggy right now… Maybe we should rest for a bit before beginning our adventure,” Edward felt my shiver, and suggested.
We walked around the edge of the forest, and finally found a big rock that could act as a shelter. We got our food out, and we ate in silence. The food we had with us could support us for a couple of weeks if we didn’t make a feast out of it.
After we had finished, we sat back and leaned on the rock. It was getting darker and colder, so I snuggled into Edward’s arms like we did when we hid in the tree house for the night as we had broken the window of my house when we were playing football, and were too scared to face my parents. We were just seven back then.
We talked about the great times we had, from the time we stick a paper that had “I’m stupid come kick me” written on it on Daniel to the time we finished building the lab. And my eyes started to get heavy.
“Sleep, (yn), it’ll be alright… I’ll protect you like always…” That was what I heard before my eyes closed.
