Chapter 5.
I looked at my mum, horrified. How could she do something like this to dad?
"This... this is no-one you need to know about" she looked at the man and nodded her head towards upstairs. He backed out the room and up the stairs.
"Don't you lie to me! I'm sick of your lies!" I pushed out of Darren's arms and angled my body towards my mum, no; I couldn't even call her that anymore. She was too low now.
"Get that bastard out of our house and yours and dad's bed!" I was yelling now, so that that intruder that was ruining my safety place-my home- would hear.
"How dare you! I pay for you to do what you want and this is what I get in return?!" I pulled out of Darren's arms and aimed to run towards the stairs to kick that stranger out, but before I could push past her, her hand was raised. And then it wasn't.
I collapsed on the floor a little dazed and confused, the side of my face was burning.
"Don't you even think about telling your father, you little bitch!" She spat the words at me. Making the hit on my face sting even more as the tears began to stream down my face.
Mum sauntered out of the room and upstairs, leaving me on the floor. Nobody spoke, I was embarrassed, hurt too. Again, I felt the two strong hands on my waist. I leaned into the body of my hero, as he picked me up and cradled me, with ease. I sobbed, and screamed, tears continuing to flow without signs of them slowing, let alone stopping.
"Mel, I'll take her to my place, can you grab her some clothes for this evening and her phone? Well you know the sorta stuff she'll need" Darren's voice was soft and I could hear it vibrate in his empty chest, his breathing was calm and spaced, making me calm down.
"Peter, can you drive my car? I'm not letting this girl out of my arms."
"Of course, see you girls at Darren's in a bit yeah?"
"Yes. See you soon." that sounded like Susie. Because my eyes were closed I couldn't see who was talking, but I heard their footsteps going up the stairs. I felt the cool breeze as the door opened and closed. I snuggled my head into Darren's neck, he smelled delicious, his breath was cool on the top of my head and his was a couple of degrees cooler than my own. This didn't matter to me, Darren was holding me. I didn't want to escape this moment.
The car door opened and Darren slid me, holding onto me as he got in after. The door slammed shut and the car’s engine purred to life. I blinked the tears away and wiped my eyes, I was muzzled into something that was soft and comfy. I looked up to see Darren looking out the window on the right hand side of the car. I was in the middle and leaning on his shoulder.
"Thank you" I whispered, ever so quietly, I didn't think that he had heard me.
"You're welcome" he smiled down at me and I felt a wave if calm serenity wash over me.
"Where are we going?"
"To my house, I wasn't prepared to leave you in that house with your mother and that man. Melissa is bringing you clothes and things for tonight, she'll bring your phone too" I was still in shock, I needed to let my daddy know. He meant so much to me. And he loved my mother very much.
"Okay. I'm sorry you had to see that Darren, I don't think she expected to me be home. She probably thought that I was going to wait till someone could pick me up"
"Not a problem, better I was there to get you out while the going was good. How's your cheek feeling?"
"It feels like it's in fire and it hurts a lot"
