Chapter 4.
After cleaning my dishes from my food, I ran up the stairs two at a time, and hurried into my room. I changed into my favourite leotard, it was black with fuchsia pink straps, and the back was low cut. I put my three quarter length tights on and my wrap around black skirt, with my matching wrap around cardigan. I rummaged through my bag until I found my several pairs of dance shoes.
I took them downstairs into the lounge. It took only a few minutes to push all the seats back, roll the rug up and wheel the three full length mirrors stored in the closet into the room. Our lounge was extremely large and with the floor being wooden my shoes would grip well. I decided that pointes were a good choice, I needed to perfect my turns before tomorrow’s class. I rosined the end and the soles of my pointes and slipped them on. After turning the music on, I felt my body buzz with the energy it had for dancing.
I began to move, and spin, over and over until I had perfected every move in the tiniest ways. I let my mind wander as I watched myself in the mirror.
Darren was gorgeous, no doubt about it, but was he only interested in me? Or was Melissa a part of his facade. He certainly had money, considering the car he has, and his fashion sense was like he just stepped out of a modelling ad. I didn't know what his personality was like fully yet, but whatever it was I was hooked already.
I couldn't get over how protective I was over him, I had just met him and I felt like a lion wanting to protect its young. But he looked older than me, he must be. All I know so far is he plays piano, well I'm guessing so seeing as he was moving that Grand Piano earlier today.
I was mid turn when there was a large knock on the front door, causing me to fall out of my routine and fall to the ground. I was so lost in my dancing that it had scared me! I laughed at myself for being so silly and, brushing myself off I headed for the door.
Opening it, I saw Susie, Melissa and... Darren. There was a tall blonde boy with a cigarette behind his ear and one hanging out of his mouth. His hair was blonde and messy, styled like that I think.
"Hello Melissa, Susie, Darren and...." I looked at them all in turn as I said their names, looking at the last boy he looked at me. Taking a long drag and removing his fag from his mouth his rough husky voice spoke.
"Peter. My names Peter Ailsen. Darren's best mate, he was talking about you on the way over, couldn't get him to shut up" Darren turned around and whacked Peter in the arm.
"What! What I say?" Peter looked as though he was about to swallow his cigarette whole when Darren hit him.
"Shut it, prune!" Peter recoiled slightly as Darren glared at him.
"Stop it boys, for gods sake! What you doing Kathy?" Melissa looked me up and down and giggled at my dress, I must be sweaty and red. I got embarrassed and lowered my head.
"I was dancing. What you doing at my house?" I stared at them; I wanted to dance, was that too much to ask?
"Well, we're all heading out for a meal later and we wondered if you wanted to come? You know get to know us all better? The restaurants really nice too" she smiled at me hopeful; I looked at Susie who nodded in support of what her sister had said.
"It is really nice, not too far from here either; I can pick you up if that helps?" Darren added.
"Well, I don't know, what time were you thinking?" I looked at Melissa for the answer.
"About half seven or eight-ish?"
"Okay then, Darren if you don't mind picking me up?"
"Not a problem, I'll drop you a text later on when I know what time I'll be at yours" I smiled at him, I couldn't get over how bad I wanted to just jump on him right now!
"Hey do you mind if we watch you dance for a bit?" Melissa peered around me into the lounge and my mirrors; I'd left the music on too. I couldn't exactly say no.
"Yeah, nobody's in at the moment, probably won't be until later" I stood out of their way and they trooped in.
"Umm... Peter I would prefer it if you didn't smoke in my house" I felt my cheeks blush, he put his hand on my shoulder and I looked at him.
"I wouldn't dream of doing something like that kid." He removed his hand and followed Darren into the lounge.
"Well, I wasn't doing anything much, I was thinking actually. I can't get my fouette turns right, I've always struggled with them"
"Show us and we can help you" Melissa was almost jumping out her seat when I said this.
"Let me just put my fouette music on and I can show you" I turned the CD back a couple of tracks and I prepared myself for my turn. The music kicked in and so did my turns, the music made my body alive again and I lost count on the amount of turns I did, whenever I stuttered or stopped I would continue doing them over and over again. Melissa got up and I continued spinning.
"Turn your knee out more!" Melissa was circling me, I could hear the other three giggling as I struggled my way through the next couple of turns before I managed to turn it out enough to make the turn smoother.
"Lift your leg up high when you extend it, and straighten it more!" She was getting excited now, I did as she said and I was spinning fluidly, travelling the right amount and I felt amazing! Like I was flying, rising and falling onto my pointes and back down again.
"Yes! That's it! It's fantastic" Melissa was jumping up and down, I smiled, I hadn't smiled so much in a very long time. I would’ve carried on but the door opened and then slammed shut again. I fell over again! But this time it wasn't because I was scared, it was because I got distracted. I felt two strong hands grab my waist and they pulled me up, I clung onto the arms that this hand belonged to and looked up into the eyes of Darren.
"What's going on here?!" My head, along with Darren, Melissa and Susie's snapped up to the door of the lounge. My mum was standing at the door, with a man behind her I didn't recognise. Her lipstick was smudged and her hair looked like it had been grabbed and pulled.
"Mum who's that?"
