Chapter 3.

English sailed by and I really didn’t pay much attention, even when Melissa and Darren walked in over half an hour late. She looked at me and beamed, I didn’t return the look and her face dropped. She took her seat next to me and pulled out her books.

"Psst. Kathy. Kathy listen to me" her voice was a high pitched whisper, no one else heard her, just me.

"No, go away; I don't want to talk to you after all, all that!" I glared at her and returned to the board and Miss Darn.

Miss Darn was a lovely, caring lady, she had a warm soft face that wasn't intimidating, and in fact it was slightly naive. Her hair was a rich auburn colour and it was loose and wavy, it was thick and luscious, it made me want to run my fingers through it, feel the softness. She wasn't as formal as all the teachers, this was refreshing.

"Kathy read this...” Melissa chucked a note on my desk. I opened it to see her elegant long handwriting.

'I know you’re annoyed about me not telling you about me and Darren. We're not together, we're always like that. We don't like each other that way. Don't be annoyed? I can tell you like him; as soon as I saw you look at him I could tell. I could introduce you if you want? I'm sorry'

I looked at her and nodded, the bell rang and she struck up conversation again.

"So you would like me to introduce you two?" her face was beaming again.

"Yes. But don't be like how you were this lunch, it made me uncomfortable." I looked down embarrassed. We collected our things in silence and walked to our lockers.

"Well then, I'll introduce you. Sorry about lunch and everything. Don't forget your dance kit tomorrow! See you later" she gave me a tight hug and walked off, next to her sister.

"I won't!" I shouted after her. Well that's it, first day over; I think I can handle this. I collected my bag and walked outside to the waiting area, I was just about to call my mother to enquire where she was, when a slinky, black Audi R8 pulled up in front of me.

"Can I offer you a lift?" I peered into t he rolled down widow of the car, I saw Darren sitting in the driver’s seat with his hands poised on the wheel.

"Umm, no thanks, my mum’s supposed to be picking me up. But she hasn't turned up yet." I looked around the car park hoping and praying she would pull up any minute. My phone began to vibrate and I saw Mum's name on the caller ID.

"Oh hey mum, where are you?" I listened intently whilst she explained. "Oh okay mum, see you later then. Bye" I put my phone in my pocket and pushed aside the upset feeling. "I think I'll need that lift"

"No problem, hop in" Darren leaned across the car and opened the door for me. I stooped into the low car and buckled myself in.

"Thank you for this. My mum's got to stay late at work and stuff" I didn’t look at him, I was too embarrassed.

"No worries, so where you live?" I could feel his stare as he drove out of school.

"56 Crescent Lane Park, just past that new super store?" I looked at him this time, getting lost in those luscious brown eyes.

"I know where that is. So have you had a good day?"

"Yes, it's been okay, I can't wait to start properly, I've got dance all day tomorrow!" I could feel how large my smile was. I love dance.

"You dance? Melissa dance's too..." He trailed off and I could feel the tension thick in the air.

"Yeah I know. She's in my class too" I smiled, holding the grudge to myself. The rest of the drive was in silence, he pulled up at my house and I got out.

"Thank you again Darren, I'll see you tomorrow?"

"Yes, oh wait!" He yelled at me whilst I turned towards my house, I returned to the car door and looked at him. "Kathy, can I offer you a lift to school tomorrow?"

"Oh umm, I don't know." His eyes were pleading, how could I resist? "Yes okay then, I would like that." I smiled my sweetest smile and his face lit up.

"Here, have my number" he scribbled down his mobile number onto the back of an old receipt.

"Thanks, see you later" I gave him one last look and walked into my house. I shut the door and leaned against it, in complete shock. My first day at my new school and I had someone's number, in fact not just someone's number, but probably the hottest boy in the school's number!

I reined myself in then; there are probably loads of girls with his number. But what if I am the only one? I was such a mess I couldn't think straight. I needed to eat; I would be fine after that. I decided to raid my fridge and pulled out some bacon, eggs and mushrooms and made myself a mini fry-up. My mind was now clear and I could think... and I would dance.
