Stereo Dreams: A Charlie Jones Love Story

~Chapter 4~

Charlie’s POV

“Charlie, this is Emilie.” As I looked up at the girl standing in front of me I felt weak at the knees. Wow, she was beautiful. Her hair, her eyes, her lips, her body... Everything about her was just so perfect. I was so mesmerized by her beauty I didn’t even realise her friend was still there until she said, “Well, I’m gonna leave you guys to it.” and walked off.

I ignored Skyler and carried on gazing at the angel in front of me. Emilie smiled nervously and it was only then I realised neither of us had spoken. Shit, say something Charlie. I racked my brain trying to remember all the advice the guys had given me about talking to girls. James and Casey would use a cheesy chat up line, Casey’s particular favourite “If you were a burger you’d be a McGorgeous.” Barclay and Tom would suggest a compliment to make the girl swoon, always something to do with the eyes, and they’ve all told me how important it is to make a girl laugh. So why can’t I think of a thing to say? Probably because she’s so freaking beautiful.

So, I blurted out the only thing I could think of, “Hey, I’m Charlie.” She already knows that! Why the hell did I say that?!

Luckily to me she smiled, “I know that...but I’m Emilie.”

“Beautiful name for a beautiful girl,” I said with a wink. Whoa, did that come out of my mouth or Barclay’s? I don’t come up with lines like that on the spot. Anyway I think it worked as she starts blushing and looks down at the ground.

“Thanks. So are you enjoying the party?”

“Yeah I am thanks. Bit nervous about performing though.” I admit.

“I’m sure you’ll be great. And even if you’re not, Skyler won’t care. She’ll love you guys no matter what.”

I laughed. “Thanks.” It actually felt quite reassuring to hear that but to be honest, I wasn’t nervous about singing for Skyler or the big crowd; I was scared about performing in front of Emilie. She was so ridiculously beautiful it was distracting.  

We chatted for a few more minutes until Jake came up to us and told me that we had to get ready to perform. I said goodbye to Emilie and she wished us luck but I just wanted to stay and talk to her longer. She was incredible. I wanted to know everything about her. Her hopes, her dreams, her favourite songs, her bad habits, her greatest fears and all the little things that make her special. I reached the boys and they were discussing the songs we were gonna sing.

“Ok, so we’re gonna start with Just The Way You Are by Bruno Mars alright?” James said. We all nodded in agreement. We all took our positions on stage; I was between Jake and Chris and Casey introduced us.

“Hey everyone, we’re Stereo Kicks and we’d like to wish the beautiful Skyler a very happy birthday.” Everyone cheered and I could see Skyler smiling in the crowd although I barely noticed her as she was standing right next to Emilie.

We started singing and I couldn’t keep my eyes off Emilie. The song was perfect for her.

When I compliment her she won't believe me

I didn’t break eye contact with her once and she knew I was singing it for her. When we were looking at each other, even though she was on the other side of the room, it still felt like we were the only two people on the planet. I could feel a connection between us – as cheesy as that sounds. And I had a feeling she could feel it too. As the song finished, Reece announced we would be taking a short break before the next song.

I jumped down from the stage and tried to make my way through the crowd to where Emilie was standing. She was laughing at something Skyler had said, wow she was beautiful when she laughed. She looked up and saw me walking towards her and the smile on her face faded. She turned to Skyler and hurriedly said something in her ear and without hesitation ran for the stairs and out the room without even a second glance back.

A/N - OMG CHARMILIE FEELS! Sorry for taking forever to update but it's assessment week at school and as you can probably tell from my poor use of vocab, I'm not the smartest girl in the world. Anyway I hope you liked the update. Why do you think Emilie ran out? The picture is Emilie btw ;-)
