I checked the time on my phone. 4:32. That gives me just over two hours until I need to leave for Skyler’s party. Our best friend code clearly states that we have to arrive to the other’s parties an hour before the actual party starts. As I pace up and down my room flapping my hands around like a manic bird in an attempt to dry my nails, I think about what the hell I’m going to wear. After what felt like forever, I finally settled on a floral skater skirt, a pink jumper and black heels. I did my hair in a messy bun with a pretty pink bow and then did my makeup. Before I left my room I took a look in my full length mirror and sighed. I hated the way I looked. My thighs, my stomach, my legs. All of it. I hated everything about the way I looked – not just my body but my face too. No amount of makeup could cover my ugly features. Glaring at the girl in my mirror, I picked up my purse from my dressing table and checked I had everything. I then left the house yelling a goodbye to whoever happened to be home. My parents were rarely at home, always working abroad or at meetings. Most teenagers would like the freedom but I just wished my parents would spend a bit more time with me. It was particularly hard having no parents as a kid. I was practically raised by my older sister – Arabella. We’re extremely close, especially because of such a small age gap of only a year and a half. You’d think considering how close we are, she would know about my secret but she hasn’t got a clue. No one does. And I want it to stay that way.

After a ten minute walk I finally arrived at Skyler’s house. Making sure my sleeves were pulled down, I knocked on the door. After a few seconds Skyler’s Mum opened the door greeting me with a huge smile.

“Hi Emilie. You look gorgeous, darling. Skyler’s downstairs getting everything ready. She’s very excited about Stereo Kicks coming tonight. I assume she already told you. Anyway, she’s just getting everything set up so just go down and join her. I hope you girls have a great night. And I hope things go well with Charlie. Sky mentioned you thought he was cute.” Mrs Webb spoke at about 100 miles per hour. But then again, she always speaks like that, no chance for anyone else to talk. Just like her daughter.

I rolled my eyes and tried to ignore the comment about Charlie. “Thanks Mrs Webb. We’ll try not to be too loud tonight. But to be honest I don’t even know how many people Skyler’s invited.”

“Neither do I, sweetie but I’m sure it won’t be too bad. As long as no one...um...what do you call it...chirps? Tweets? That Stereo Kicks are coming.”

I laughed at her attempt to understand modern social media, “Yeah. Oh I forgot to ask, is it ok if I crash here tonight if the party ends late?”

“Of course it is Emilie. You should know by now you’re practically part of the family. You’re always welcome here.”

“Thank you so much Mrs Webb.” I smiled as I turned around and headed for the stairs leading to the basement.

As I started down the stairs I heard her call after me, “Not a problem, poppet. And for the love of god, call me Julia!”

When I got to the bottom of the stairs I looked around Skyler’s massive basement. It had been decorated beautifully. Fairy lights all over the room, fire lit, music playing, space made for a dance floor. Her usual old downstairs lounge now looked gorgeous.

Skyler was laying out food and drinks on a massive table at the side of the room. She looked up when she heard me come in.

“Wow you look stunning, babe.” she said, staring at my outfit.

“I was gonna say the same to you. That dress is gorgeous.”

“I know right. I’m fabulous bitch!” she exclaimed with a twirl across the room.

I just laughed. Wow my friend is weird... “The room looks great too by the way. How long did this take you?” I asked looking around again.

“Not that long. I made the boys do it.” I nodded, knowing she meant her brothers who are always happy to help her with anything, “I’ve spent the last 3 hours getting ready. But then again...beauty takes time!”

I laughed again, “Yeah totally. By the way I just spoke to your Mum. You told her I thought Charlie was cute? Why would you do that? For the billionth time, I don’t like him!!” I protested.

“Emilie, I know you think he’s cute. And he’s the only member of the band whose name you actually know. You always ask me things about him like; where’s he from? How old is he? DOES HE HAVE A GIRLFRIEND?! Just admit that you like him!”

“Ok fine then! I do think he’s kinda cute...” I forced myself to ignore the triumphant smirk on her face before I slapped it off her, “But it’s not like anything’s gonna happen tonight! And even if it did I can’t let it happen...” I trailed off realizing I hadn’t told her my secret.

“What do you mean you can’t let it happen? You’re 15. Single. Approving parents and shockingly beautiful. There’s no reason for you to not be in a relationship. Unless...wait...is there?”

A/N - I hope you guys liked that chapter. Sorry it was a bit boring...it will get more exciting in the next chapeters when she finally meets Charlie!! The photo above is Emilie's outfit btw!

Stay awesome,
