THE ABUBAKR RESIDENCE,
ABOWA.
NOVEMBER, 2020

"Have you done what I asked you to do?" Sen. Abubakr asked Safiya who now had her heels on both legs, a regal outfit on her and a scarf tied loosely around her hair.

"Yes" Safiya answered, retouching her make-up.

"Why do you tolerate that man baby?" Safiya asked, her lips curling up in disdain at the thought of Gov. Yahya.

Sen. Abubakr sighed heavily, reclining against the sofa.

"It's not like any body really likes the man. You know how he is, always claiming to be righteous and trying to protect the citizens", he said first, staring off into the distance as he spoke.

"He's always giving everyone a hard time once they obtain even a little bit of the money. Do you think he would've remained in power for this long despite being hated so much if there wasn't something attached to it?" The man asked, glancing at his wife with one eyebrow quirked in question.

Safiya only looked on in curiosity, nodding her head.

" The man is no ordinary man. From his great grandfather to his grandfather and his father, his uncles, grand uncles and his nephews, the entire family is affiliated with the military and politics.

His great grandfather was a head of state many years ago under colonial rule, while his uncle was the highest ranking military officer at the same time. Their family basically monopolized the entire country, leading both the military and civil sectors. Because of that, it was said that they put a lot of their own people in power. You could almost say the country was ruled by them.

After both men died, their children took over, once those ones would leave office, another family member would join. They had amassed so much wealth and power that if they willed, they could've bought an entire country.

The current military Chief of Defense staff, and the Chief of Naval staff are cousins of Gov. Yahya. His family is also affiliated with the military of other neighboring countries, European and Asian countries. Even our current president is a godson of one of his grand uncles.

If Gov. Yahya decided today, that he wanted to become the president, there wouldn't be too much fuss about it. You could say, in a way, Governor Yahya's family is the number one family in the entire country.

Safiya's eyes were wide in awe, fear and amazement, each warring to take precedence over her emotions. "More important than the president?"  She asked, disbelieving.

The look sen. Abubakr gave her was one that didn't need any explanation. It clearly spoke of how stupid he thought she sounded.

Still, with this new piece of information, the woman couldn't help but take the news of his visitation more seriously.

"Bola!" She screamed loudly, getting up from where she sat, agitated.

A middle aged woman suddenly came running down the stairs, looking very sharp and alert.

She knew how difficult this boss of hers was, and she didn't want any troubles with her, especially when her young mistress needed her.

"I hope everywhere is clean? And you've made all those dishes I asked you to?"

The older woman nodded obediently, her head bent in submission while her heart cursed the woman before her, she felt an immense amount of irritation overwhelm her, but she managed to reign it back.

Since they'd hired her a year and half ago, brought to the huge, deserted mansion, Bola had never once seen the woman be anything other than unkind.

Bola was the only staff that was allowed into the mansion, and while she was a bit hesitant to sign her contract at first, she soon realized that the situation of the Abubakrs was quite peculiar.
