THE KHALIL RESIDENCE,
ASOKORO.
JANUARY, 2021

When Jamilah woke up in the morning, it was with a banging headache.

She could feel the sun rays on her face, a sure sign Bola had been there that morning.

How wrong was she!

Yes, the window had indeed been pulled apart to let the rays into the room, but Bola wasn't the reason for her not-so-gracious awakening.

And it was only when she turned to her side to avoid the rays from hitting her face that she realized how wrong she was.

There, with his head propped up on the head board, and a system in hand, was Jamil.

The same Jamil her memory was beginning to remind her, she was now married to.

Probably, if she was a bit less muddle headed, she'd have behaved like a proper lady.

You know, greeted him with a smile before she proceeded to ask him what the heck he was doing on her bed.

But Jamilah's head was nothing if not muddled, and so she squealed.

Jamil spared her a glance, gave her what she'd probably term a shy smile- except there wasn't a twitch in his lips, or eyes for that matter- and turned back to his system.

Jamilah, in the wake of his lack of response proceeded to pat her body down, feeling the slightest bit of calm wash over her when she had confirmed that she was indeed, not as she was when Safiya had pushed her out of her cervix.

The fact that she was thinking about cervixes and childbirth only proved to her, that she was still very much confused.

"Assalamu alaykum", Jamil's voice came, thankfully pulling her out of her trance.

She mumbled a response, cheeks heating as she eyed the distance between them, easily crossable as it was.

"W-what are you doing here?", She managed to ask, fiddling with her thumbs.

Jamil, who'd been prepared for a more violent response, and a louder squeal was pleasantly surprised.

But his response showed none of what he felt, and he instead looked her dead in the eye, "we're married".

Jamilah's jaw hung quite embarrassingly before she could stop it.

Logic never did work when it came to Jamil, did it?

"Y-yes. But still, you aren't supposed to be here", she found herself saying.

Jamil's lips were pursed as she spoke, amusement swirling within him.

"Would you have preferred we stay in my room?".

Words failed Jameelah. This man, did he truly not understand her point?

Jamil smiled slightly, an actual smile this time.

And Jamilah swore her heart had never beat that fast before.

"You should smile more", she found herself saying before she could stop herself.

Jamil's smile disappeared with her words and she wished she hadn't spoken.

It was then she noticed how tired he looked.

"Did you sleep?", She found herself asking.

The fact that she was handling their situation well was as shocking to her as it was to him.

She somehow, didn't feel the need to bolt from him.

Was she shy? Yes. So much so that she couldn't at all meet his gaze.
