I actually slept really well. The last few days haven't been very good but today was already looking up. I sat up and to my surprise I wasn't dizzy. A big smiled came over my face. It felt amazing to be able to just sit without feeling like you're about to fall over. Willie and Luke walked in the studio and saw how excited I looked.
"Hey Lex, you look happy." Willie said with a smile. I knew he was happy to see my spirits were high. "Yeah, I don't really feel sick and I can sit up without getting dizzy." I said excitedly. I put my left hand on the coffee table as my right arm was completely gone. I stood up and was immediately stable. That hadn't happened in what felt like forever.
Willie and Luke looked at each other, also with big smiles and hugged me. We were absolutely elated. We broke the hug as Julie and Reggie came in. "You look better." Julie said. I nodded and Willie grabbed my hand. I didn't even notice at first but I liked it.
"Hey Alex, if you're up for it, do you want to play some music?" Luke asked. "Totally!" I said. None of us had played since the day I got sick. We all missed playing together and I felt ready. I stood up on my own and walked over to my drum set. It was surreal to just stand up and walk. I wasn't even a little dizzy.
Julie have each of a sheet a paper. "I wrote this song a few days ago. It's just something I was playing around with. I'm not even sure how it sounds." She said. I read the music and the lyrics. The tempo was pretty slow and all the notes were kinda low. We started playing it. Julie started with her piano then we came in with guitar, bass, and drums. Julie had most of the lyrics with the occasional harmony from Luke. As we played more of the song, I realized what the message was. It was about how much they care about me.
Julie couldn't have written a better song. It was absolutely incredible. We finished the song with a group note and and a small guitar strum. "Jules, that was amazing!" I said, hugging her. She had an ear to ear grin. I still couldn't believe a 15 year old girl had done this all on her own in a matter of days. Julie was the best there was and I felt so lucky to have her.
We practiced the song a few more times, as well as songs we had played before. The entire time we were playing I was using my one hand to play. It wasn't as hard as I thought, I just had to move a little quicker. When we finished, we all walked over to the couch and chairs and sat down. Once I was in the couch, I got a weird feeling. My entire body felt like pins and needles. "What's happening!?" I asked in fear." The gang looked at me with concern. "My entire body's numb!" I yelled. I was seriously freaking out.
Willie ran in from outside. "What's going on?" He asked. "I heard yelling." My breathing was getting faster. Obviously I had felt pins and needles before but this was different. Luke told Willie what was going on and he came and sat next to me. "It's ok Alex, just breathe." Willie said. "Guys, look!" Julie yelled, point at my right side. I looked down and saw my arm slowly coming back.
All our jaws dropped. I was definitely not expecting to have my arm come back at all. My fast breathing stopped as we all watched my arm come back. I slowly moved my hand. It was fine. It felt like nothing ever happened. Willie and I glanced at each other with huge smiles on our faces. We immediately pulled each other in for a hug. One by one I hugged the rest of my friends. I don't think any of us had ever been happier.
