Wei WuXian woke up the next morning feeling refreshed. He and Lan Wangji walked downstairs to join the others for breakfast. To his surprise, he only saw Sizhui, Jingyi and Wen Ning sitting at the table.
"Where are Jiang Cheng and Jin Ling?" Wei WuXian asked after ordering a bowl of spicy congee.
"They went together to check on the people who were influenced by the Dream Demon," Sizhui explained.
"I see. Will they be coming back?"
"They'll be back shortly," Lan Wangji told him. "Eat first." The waiter had just placed his bowl of congee onto the table. Wei WuXian ate his food quickly and placed the empty bowl onto the table.
"We should meet up with Sect Leader Jiang if we are all done eating," Lan Wangji said serenely, standing up from the table.
"No need for that, Lan Zhan. They're back already." Wei WuXian indicated toward the entrance of the inn with a flick of his chin.
"We can't stay long," Jiang Cheng walked toward them. " I have to return to Moling. I left in a hurry after receiving Jin Ling's emergency message. I told Sect Leader Yang I'd come back afterwards."
"Right, you came so quickly after hearing I was in trouble. Worried about me, weren't you?" Jiang Cheng threw a punch at his shoulder.
"I was worried about Jin Ling," he retorted. "That little brat is always getting himself into trouble just like you!"
"I came to solve a problem like a sect leader would," Jin Ling said indignantly. Jiang Cheng only sighed and shook his head.
"Just don't try to handle anything you know you won't be able to handle yourself," Wei WuXian said in an effort to comfort him.
"You're one to talk!" Jiang Cheng snapped
"I'll be returning to Carp Tower now that the problem has been solved," Jin Ling said swiftly, changing the topic. He looked over at Sizhui, making eye contact briefly. "I'll see you on our next night-hunt together."
"Right," Sizhui nodded. "Hopefully Zizhen will be able to join us next time." As they left the inn together and were about to go their separate ways, excited voices arose up from the crowd of people on the streets.
"Not them again," Wei WuXian groaned, immediately ducking behind Lan Wangji.
"Who?" Jiang Cheng frowned, narrowing his eyes into the crowd.
"His secret admirers," Jin Ling remarked, rolling his eyes.
"They stalked us," Wei WuXian retorted.
"But they did not harm you, did they?" Lan Wangji inquired.
"No...but, it's annoying. Jiang Cheng, go scare them off!" Jiang Cheng stared at him in disbelief.
"Me?! How am I supposed to do that? I don't want anyone to see me abusing my sect leader power, mind you!"
"Would you prefer if I summoned a couple of fierce corpses to chase them off?" Wei WuXian retorted. "Because that's definitely an option I am considering."
"Wei Ying," Lan Wangji reprimanded him gently.
"Only joking," Wei WuXian grinned. "They won't approach us so casually with Hanguang-jun and Jiang Cheng here." Wei WuXian could see faces peering out from behind an alleyway before they ducked back into the crowd.
"You're perfectly capable of scaring them off by yourself. Why bother Hanguang-jun?" Jiang Cheng snorted.
"I'm trying to renew my reputation here," Wei WuXian protested.
