"A lotus pond? In Gusu?" Jiang Cheng exclaimed in shock when Wei WuXian led him to the back of the Jingshi.
"Hey, I managed to grow one in the Burial Mounds. Growing one in Cloud Recesses wasn't too hard." Wei WuXian said proudly, leaning down to brush one of the lotus flowers with his fingers.
"You're full of surprises, aren't you?" Jiang Cheng scoffed.
"Of course I am. You should know that by now. I'm always full of surprises." Wei WuXian beamed at him
"As long as you don't put yourself in danger," Lan Wangji said calmly. Wei WuXian blinked innocently at him.
"I would never. Besides, I'm a cultivator. What do I have to be afraid of? I can fight well with Suibian again thanks to Lan Zhan and you training me."
"I'll be less worried once you stop flying your sword into trees," Jiang Cheng crossed his arm.
"That only happened when I first started getting on the sword!" Wei WuXian protested.
"That is not what Jin Ling told me." Jiang Cheng retorted. Wei WuXian sucked in a breath.
"I only fell because we were having a sword race and Jin Ling crashed into me." Wei WuXian insisted.
"Yeah okay. Well I need to leave. I have work to do back at Lotus Pier. Do not drag me into another one of your night-hunt messes, okay?"
"You sure you won't stay for the night? We have Emperor's Smile," Wei WuXian winked. Lan Wangji gives him a look. Under his position as Chief Cultivator, he only ever allowed his husband to consume his favorite alcohol.
"We can drink at Lotus Pier!" Jiang Cheng retorted.
"No way!" Wei WuXian protested. "The last time we drank together, you got drunk and tried throwing me into the lake!"
"Wei Ying can swim," Lan Wangji said calmly. Wei WuXian gaped at him.
"Lan Zhan! Are you fine with Jiang Cheng's bullying?"
"I was drunk!"
"You bully me even when sober."
"You-!"
"No shouting at Cloud Recesses, A-Cheng," Wei WuXian laughed. Jiang Cheng made a face at him and walked away with a wave of his hand.
"Fine, I'm leaving!" He grumbled.
"Bye, ChengCheng!"
"ChengCheng?!" Jiang Cheng yelped in disbelief and rage. Wei WuXian smirked at him and received a deathly scowl in return."Goodbye!"
Wei WuXian watched him leave with a fond smile, holding his new robes close to his chest.
"Wei Ying," Wei WuXian turned and smiled at his husband, following him back inside the Jingshi. They went back to what they were doing, correcting papers while eating loquats and picking the lotus seeds out from the lotus pods.
Later that evening, their supper was lotus roots and ribs soup with a vegetarian version for Lan Wangji.
"Lan Zhan, did you hear about Nie-xiong, I mean Sect Leader Nie? Though I'm sure you have spoken to him, being Chief Cultivator and all. He's really stepping up as sect leader isn't he? Using his fans as weapons now."
"Mn. It is unique." Lan Wangji paused. "He takes after you."
"After me? Using music cultivation isn't anything new...the Lan Sect was the one who inspired me to take after that," He rubbed his fingers along ChenQing.
