chapter oneHer dark brown hair fell down her back in loose waves, a few strands of the curled hair framing her angelic shaped face. Honey brown eyes twinkled with every laugh she shared, her nose scrunching up as a loud laugh fell from her glossed lips.
Corbyn was standing in the corner of the apartment, leaning back against the wall with a cold beer clutched in his right hand. Daniel was by his side, examining the living room where Corbyn's twenty third birthday party was held.
"I hate him," Corbyn muttered before taking a sip of the cold beer, the bitter taste hitting his tastebuds immediately. He liked the strong flavor due to its habit of drowning out every daydream he had about her. "He's an asshole."
Daniel agreed with a nod, sighing after he gulped down the last of his mango flavored White Claw, "I don't get what she sees in him," He answered his best friend, shaking his head. Even if he wasn't here, the guy was causing loads of annoyance and drama in the group.
It had been around three months ago since Nova started dating Noah, and their group of friends had despised him from the start. It hadn't been because he was an outcast or because he suddenly took an interest in her, but just because he was a straight up douchebag plus his attitude and way of living weren't what they were used to.
"It's probably because he tells her what she wants to hear," The brunette groaned, rubbing his eyes with one hand before letting his gaze fall back onto the girl standing across the room, "I'm glad the asshole decided to ditch us tonight."
Daniel chuckled, "You know he's going to end up picking her up in his fucking Corvette and show her off, right?" He asked his friend after he noticed Corbyn's tight grip on the green bottle.
"Oh," Jessie, Nova's best friend, decided to jump in onto the conversation, "You know he's going to take her to Domino's, get her her pizza and milkshake and then drive her home so she's able to do things he lured her in for," She scoffed, scrunching up her nose in disgust.
The three of them had always get a hatred towards the tall , blonde guy and they couldn't put their finger on why. Especially in the beginning because they obviously didn't get the chance to really know him, because all he was interested in was getting to know Nova - her friends didn't even matter that much. And that had obviously hit a nerve, considering the whole friend group wanted to get to know him to make sure he was right for her. In that exact moment, they knew he was going to cause a lot of trouble.
"He disgusts me so fucking bad," Corbyn sighed deeply before downing the last few sips of his beer, slamming the empty glass bottle onto the table, "She deserves so much fucking more than he gives her, and she doesn't even see it. They're unhealthy together."
Jessie placed a hand onto Corbyn's shoulder, trying to comfort him. It hurt her to see him so angry and agitated like this, but she knew it was because Corbyn was in love with Nova since they were seventeen years old. Jessie had been the one to examine them day by day after she introduced the pair after a biology project, and knew by the way Corbyn was looking at her, he took an interest in the brunette ever since.
Six years later, nothing had changed besides the fact she had started dating Noah a few months ago and everyone saw Corbyn was head over heels for the girl besides herself. The fact that Corbyn was always too afraid to speak his mind had now taught him regret and hurt, because she was now with someone else and he didn't know what to do.
He had been swimming in his own thoughts and was zoned out until he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. While fishing his phone out of the denim, he looked up and noticed Jessie and Daniel were having a conversation with just the two of them and Nova was nowhere to be found. His eyebrows scrunched together in a confused way, because normally his best friend always told him she was leaving. It all made sense when her name appeared on top of his notifications.
Corbyn excused himself from where he was standing with a few of his friends, pushing through the crowd centering in the kitchen. He kindly greeted them, remembering it was his birthday and he had to talk to some of the people he had forgotten about because the only thing clouding his mind was the girl sitting outside.
He sighed to himself before he opened the door to the backyard, silencing out the loud music and conversations coming from inside. It was nice to be outside and escape the chaos for a while, until he noticed Nova sitting at the edge of the pool. Her feet were dipped into the cold water and when she noticed Corbyn coming towards her, she quickly wiped away the tears that fell from her eyes.
He sat down right next to her and tucked his knees up to his chest, staring at the water before he decided to speak up. "What's wrong?" His voice came out quiet. He wasn't sure if she heard him, but when he sighed deeply and tried to form an answer, Corbyn was aware she heard his question very well.
"He decided to ditch me," She spoke up with a cold hearted chuckle falling from her plump lips. Her biting them while being nervous, mad or annoyed was a habit she had ever since she was a child and Corbyn knew this had to be a bad situation, "Noah thought it would be good for him to go out and get wasted instead of being an adult and pick me up, so that's great."
Corbyn sighed to himself, knowing that this wasn't the first time this happened and it wasn't going to be the last time either. He just couldn't comprehend why someone so amazing like Nova would date an asshole like him. She let out a quiet sob and looked away from the water, not wanting to make eye contact with Corbyn. He reached over to wrap his arms around her and pull her in a tight embrace, knowing that he would always be there for her whenever she fell to a million pieces.
