chapter seven"Oh!" Jessie exclaimed once she saw her best friend walking down the staircase, hurrying towards her after she got out of the grip Daniel had on her waist, "Are you okay, love?"
After the fight occurred between Noah and Corbyn, Jessie had only been able to talk to her friend individually when Ashley and her guided their best friend outside to calm her down. She talked some courage into Nova before she headed upstairs to talk to Corbyn- but hadn't seen her fellow brunette after that.
Nova smiled at Jessie after wrapping her arms around Jessie's waist as she had her arms reached out for Nova to walk into. The brunette nodded, "Yeah, I'm fine. He's fine. We're fine."
Nova was extremely excited to tell her best friends about the kiss she shared with Corbyn, but she knew it was best to wait. It had only been a few hours since she broke up with Noah after he punched Corbyn, and she didn't know what to feel. All she knew was that she enjoyed kissing Corbyn and how safe she felt when he gently held her face in his calloused hands, and it felt strange to her because Nova never felt nervous around him until this exact night.
"I'm glad," Jessie smiled before reaching forward to plant a kiss onto her non bruised jaw, knowing that there was a lot more going on inside her head but deciding to drop it. If she didn't want to talk about it now, Jessie would wait until Nova was ready.
When Jessie dragged Nova back to the group of friends that still lingered around after the fight, Nova caught a glimpse of Corbyn skipping down the stairs to meet up with Jonah and Daniel. His eyes looked around the room until they found hers, his right eye dropping down into a quick and barely noticeable wink.
It was so quick nobody else was able to see it, but Nova sure as hell did. It sent a rush of excitement through her veins and she tried her best to contain the smile that was currently creeping its way up to her lips while she listened to Ashley's story. The brunette zoned out completely and she just hoped no one of her girl friends had noticed that Corbyn and their kiss were clouding her mind.
Nova had changed her clothes before she went downstairs, the white silk dress swapped for black sweats and a same colored crop top. Her wavy hair was now held up by a hair clip, a few strands falling out of the up-do and framing her make-up free face.
It was at times like these that Corbyn knew he fell in love with the right girl, even if he had started feeling this way since they were young teenagers. Nova had always been the laid back girl when Corbyn got to know her, and he never felt like he needed to prove himself to her. That was one of the main reasons why he loved to hang out with her, because she wasn't the one to judge.
Yes, she was honest with every single bone in her body. Sometimes maybe a bit too honest- at times where her sarcasm became so shady people didn't know whether she was joking or just being a straight up bitch. Either way, Corbyn adored the fact Nova was always honest.
When she came upstairs to help him clean his wounds, he was filled with ecstasy because for him it meant that she chose his side instead of douchebag Noah's. Even if it was clear she was on Corbyn's side after blocking Noah when he told her to choose between the two guys- it was nice to have some reassurance.
Corbyn knew her feelings were all over the place, but that didn't mean she wasn't aware of what she was doing. The kiss they shared was something none of them had planned beforehand and both of them didn't think it'd happen on a night like this. With that being said, the kiss did something to both of them and it was hard to let that feeling slip.
He was aware of the fact she wanted to keep their intimate moment to themselves for slightly longer, just until she had her feelings sorted out. Corbyn was okay with that, because he fully understood how confused the girl must've been after breaking up with her ex just a few hours before kissing her best friend. It was a lot, and Corbyn knew he just had to stick with her and whichever choice she made. That didn't stop him from wanting to be close to her though.
Nova felt her phone vibrate in the pocket of her sweatpants, an immediate frown making its way onto her face because she didn't know who would text her at aan ungodly hour like this.
It all made sense when Corbyn's name had popped up onto her lock screen, a text from him the only notification she currently had. The few words had her biting her lip harshly to try and contain her cheeks from growing red, her eyes shooting up to look if anyone noticed her sudden change of posture.
Ashley and Jessie were busy with their own conversation about how they needed to make some new pictures for their Instagram, and Nova could not be more relieved. Her eyes went back to the lightly dimmed screen, scanning the words one more time.
Her eyes left the screen as she looked up, finding Corbyn's ocean gaze lingering on her. His lips curled into an amused smirk as he took a sip from his beer, keeping their gazes locked in the meantime. Her eyebrows raised up in playfulness before she let her thumbs move across the screen to text him back.
Nova saw him reaching for his phone almost immediately after her text was sent, and noticed how he was grinning while texting back a response.
