"Y/N! Could you come and help me with these books, dear?" Mrs Windsor called. I came down from the second floor and into the basement. "Yes, Mrs Windsor?" - I came, and she opened a box filled with the newest books written by my favourite writer.
I helped Mrs Windsor put up all the books that were left, and soon the clock struck 4 in the afternoon. "Alright Y/N dear, you can pack your things and go home now."
She smiled at me. This is the last day of my job. After I picked up all my things, Mrs Windsor locked the door to the bookshop.
"Alright, I've got everything. Thank you again so much, Mrs Windsor!" - I said happily. "I'm glad you're happy, my dear, and don't forget your payment!" - she gave me a small bag of Galleons, I looked in and saw at least 15 of them.
"Thank you, Mrs Windsor!" - I smiled at her, and she patted my back. "Good luck this school year, my dear, make me proud!" - she said as I walked away from her.
I was so excited, and I waved at her as I finally left the Diagon Alley. Once I finally made it home, I saw my sister standing outside our flat, smoking. "Ah, you're home Y/n, are you ready to pack our bags for tomorrow?"
She didn't seem too upset with me, but she still seemed quite unhappy. "What's wrong Delilah?" - I questioned her. She seemed lost in her own universe. She then glanced at me as she blew a puff of smoke into the chilly air.
"It's just that, I'm afraid of going to Hogwarts this year."- she sighed. Then she offered me a cigarette. "No, thanks sis." - I said.
She smirked. "Today is my last day at work. Before I quit to go to school." - she chuckled to herself, pinching her nose with her fingers. Ironic, she always does that, every summer she works, and once summer is over she quits.
"Do you have to do it?" - I asked her. "Well, if you're ready to take my place, I'd be more than happy to stay at the flat. But I can't ask you to do that. Besides, I'll be fine." - she laughed, but her laugh soon became grief.
"What if we work together tonight? Maybe it won't be so bad-" Delilah cut me off, "No." - I snarled, "Why not?! You're destroying your body and beauty like that! And you think your boss cares?!" - I yelled, on the verge of tears.
"No, Y/n, but I'm doing this, so we have money to buy ourselves everything we need to survive. And don't you dare question this. It's my decision." - she breathed as she opened the door of the flat to me.
"Go on. Let's have supper and then pack our bags for tomorrow." - I sighed deeply and I entered. Delilah was doing a job I disliked, but I also understood why she was doing it.
Ever since that summer when our mom died...
I was running through the meadow. Delilah was with me. "Y/N sweetie! Come over here, please!" - mother called. "Coming mother!" - I shouted, Delilah was still sitting in the grass. As I was about to reach my mother, someone was behind me. They shouted "Avada Kedavra" and with that mother was gone, she shielded me from the attacker and fell beside me.
Delilah sat there in the meadow, I was terrified. I was frozen and in shock, mother was dead, she was GONE. Delilah snapped me out of my trance as she shouted: "Y/n run!" - I looked over to her and ran up to her, but only to be knocked out by the person who killed my mother.
The last thing I heard was my sister screaming for the man to let us go, but he laughed and took us away like we were objects.
It took us months to escape the grasp of the man who kidnapped us. But eventually, we escaped, right into the muggle world, where we were forced to live like outcasts, more like slaves.
I don't understand how wizards and witches can live in this world without magic, it's so dreadful and looks as if someone drained all the colours out of it.
As we entered, I started packing my bags to go back to Hogwarts, I was hoping to maybe become the bookshop owner, I know I thought Mrs Windsor was joking about it, but maybe she wasn't.
Anyway, I packed most of my clothes, the little I had, and I packed the things I'd need this year. "Will you be travelling by train or will you apparate?" - she asked me. I sighed, I knew Delilah would apparate since she has that ability.
Somehow we knew how to do the most difficult of spells, yet we never knew why. Or at least maybe we forgot from living among muggles. "I'll be travelling by train, unless I change my mind, why?"
I heard Delilah sigh. "I'd just like to sit at the table, be done with it, and disappear." - she muttered. I knew she didn't like showing herself at Hogwarts. Even though she was the best witch in her year, she didn't like anyone.
It was normal, we didn't grow up with wizards and witches, muggles were our everyday people. "I know Delilah, I'm sure the Headmaster will understand." - I tried to comfort her. She sat on her bed and began to sob.
"Oh, Delilah!" - I hugged her tightly. She cried into my shoulder as I held her in a tight hug. It was as if I was the elder sister. But this was a normal thing for Delilah, she was stressed, we were both going to Hogwarts, and it wasn't cheap.
"C'mon, Delilah, let's pack and not have a care in the world!" - she sighed, wiping her tears from her face and smiling. "You pack up, I have to go to work now." - she sighed and so did I, I could still see the love bites from the last time she went to work.
"Please come back in one piece..." - I said, as I was still hugging her, now more tightly. "Y/n you're crushing my ribs!" - we laughed for a brief moment. I felt her genuine smile fade.
And with that, she opened the door to our flat. "Once you're done with school, you can get a better job, even a job in the bookshop is a better job than what I have." - she said, pecking my forehead softly, and we stayed in that position for a while...
