Shuichi's POV
After school ended, Kokichi asked me if I wanted to walk home with him. Since our houses are near each other, I agreed to his offer. He grasped my wrist tightly, and pulled me towards our neighborhood.
"Hey Kokichi, you can let go of me now." I said. His grip was tight. It was as if he let it free he would lose me. He stopped in his tracks and stared at me.
"O-oh.." He let go. "Sorry 'bout that, Shumai." He made a small grin and continued walking.
The sun was somewhat setting, vanishing into the horizon. The sky was a beautiful ombre of orange and yellow. "Kichi, look at the sky." I pointed upwards.
"Woah...It looks like fire!" He exclaimed.
I snorted at his words. "I don't know if that's a good thing or not!" I laughed.
Kokichi put on a pouty expression as I continued to laugh. "But it's true! Stop laughing at me, Shumai!" He whined.
I gasped, taking in a big breath. I looked up at the sky once more. "I guess you're right, Kichi." I smiled. This was surely something I will remember for the rest of my life.
We reached my house a few minutes later. Kokichi and I said our goodbyes for the night. I waved at him as he walked away.
I unlocked the door and went inside. I set my boots on the side of the door mat. It was quiet today. Usually when I came home my uncle would be watching TV. He must've gone somewhere today. I didn't really mind it though.
Stepping up the slim stairs, I headed to my room. I sighed as I flopped onto my bed.
Today was fun, I thought to myself. I sat up and took the small notepad and pencil off of my nightstand. I flipped to a blank page and started to write.
Today, Kokichi made me laugh, per usual. I'm so lucky to have a friend like him by my side. Kaede too. I hope to hang out with Kokichi after April Term ends! We could go to the arcade or maybe walk in the park! This week is the last week before the end of April term, so I might as well ask him sooner rather than later. [7/13 15:26]
I ended the journal entry for the day and decided to eat something. I made my way downstairs, into the kitchen. I pulled out the ingredients to make curry and rice.
I cooked the rice in the rice cooker, and started making the curry. I cut up some vegetables and stirred them into the curry. Chopping up the onions made my eyes water a bit. I mixed in the potatoes and finally, the beef.
I served myself a portion of the curry. I placed the dish on the table and sat down to eat. I was about to take the first bite when I suddenly thought of Ouma.
He doesn't eat anything usually, and I made too much to finish on my own...I thought as I got up to dish him some. I wrapped it in plastic wrap to ensure that it wouldn't spill.
I put my shoes on and walked over to his house, curry and rice in hand.
I knocked on the door and waited for the short boy to answer. It took a few seconds before the door suddenly flew open. Ouma looked up at me with a glare. His eyes slowly fell down to the plate in my hand. "What's that?" He asked, placing his hands on his hips.
"I whipped up some curry and rice for dinner and accidentally made too much." I shoved the food into his hands. "So here."
He held the plate out in front of him and stared blankly at me. "Don't expect me to eat it alone. Move over I'm coming over to your place." He shut his door and shooed me out of the way.
"H-hey! You can't just invite yourself over, Kichi!" I explained, catching up with him.
"Are you saying I have to eat this alone?" He whined.
I hesitantly shook my head. "I guess if you really want to." I sighed. Kokichi's eyes lit up almost immediately. He sped up his pace while I tried to keep up with him.
He happily made his way to the door. I opened the door. He scurried over to the table as I took off my shoes. "You like curry and rice?" I quizzed Kokichi.
"Anything Shumai makes is delicious!" Kokichi said all the while shoving his face with rice. I smiled and sat down next to him.
He coughed a bit from swallowing to fast. "Woah, slow down there you don't want to choke!" I worried. He just smiled at me.
"Is there more!?" Ouma jumped up and down. I pointed over at the rice cooker. He quickly ran over there to serve himself a second dish.
When we finished eating Kokichi asked if he could stay a bit longer. "I dunno Kokichi, my uncle might be home soon.." I said scratching my neck. My uncle doesn't like Kokichi. He thinks he's a bad influence on me. I don't understand how he could be a bad influence though, he's a really good friend. He makes me laugh and smile. When he's around I feel like I can have fun!
"Awe come on, Shumai!" Kokichi groaned.
I stared at the smaller boy. He seemed to have tears in his eyes, though they were fake usually. I sighed as I cleaned the dishes we ate off of. "Fine, but only for a little bit."
He almost squealed out happily when the door knob began to shake. I froze in place, almost dropping a plate. I set down the sponge and glass china as I started to shove Kokichi up stairs.
"Hurry, hurry go!" I whispered. Kokichi almost tripped on the stairs as his foot hit it really hard. He winced in pain, so I grabbed him by the armpits and carried up to my room.
"You stay here, I'll be back, okay?" He looked to be in a lot of pain. "I'll get an ice pack when I come back." Kokichi nodded all the while holding on to his foot.
I made my way back down the steps. Then I made my way to the freezer to get an ice pack. Stuffing the ice pack into my shirt I turned around to find my uncle glaring at me. His sudden appearance shocked me.
"What's that for?" My uncle asked.
My palms started to sweat, my words stuttering out of my mouth as I spoke, "I-I uh..Have a fever."
My Uncle cocked his head. "A fever? And you went to school?"
I nodded. "Well it didn't start until after I came home. From s-stress, you kn-know?" God I really hoped he didn't notice my terribly lying.
"Then go to your room and rest. I don't want to see you until breakfast." He grunted.
"Ye-yes sir." I managed to slip out before I ran back up the stairs.
I noticed blood on the step that Ouma hit his foot on. Crap! I have to clean that.. I didn't want to go back downstairs so I quickly ran to the bathroom to grab some toilet paper. I wiped off the blood stain and ran back to my room to throw it away.
Kokichi looked like he was in a lot of pain. His foot was gushing out blood. "H-here!" I handed him the ice pack. "I'll get some bandages, just stay there." I really didn't know what I was doing.
