27 years since I was last in Derry. 27 years since I had last seen the losers. 27 years since I had last seen the clown known as Pennywise.
I hop out of the cab that took me to Mandarin Restaurant. The scent of Derry, Maine hit my nose, and memories flooded back into my brain.
As I was reminiscing on the past, a black car pulled up behind me. The unmistakable red hair came out of the car door. Beverly. My old best friend.
She was still just as beautiful as ever, no surprise. When she first saw me, she probably did not even know who I was, then, there came that spark in her eyes. "Oh my god, y/n?" She ran up to me, scanning my face. "I can't believe it's you! It's been so long, I didn't even recognize you!"
She pulls me into a tight hug. Of course she didn't recognize me, none of the losers would. Well, maybe Ben would, depending on if he has changed or not.
Oh yeah, Ben. He was one of the kindest souls I have ever met, I sure hope to god he hasn't changed. I hope that about everyone, I hope we are still the same, weird little kids we were 27 years ago.
Bev and I walk in together. "We're meeting people here, Mike Hanlon set the reservation." I tell the hostess. She nods, leading us to a table. The losers, all grown up now, turn to look at the two women who are standing at their table.
"Well if it isn't Beverly Marsh and y/n y/l/n." A man with big glasses, Richie, speaks, looking both of us up and down. "You two aged like fine wine these past 27 years."
"God Richie, shut up." I knew that voice. Eddie Kaspbrak. Looking at everyone around the table, I could recognize each one of them, all except one.
A handsome, built man sat at the end of the table. He was dressed in an expensive suit, his hair was slicked back, all business like. It took me a while, but I would never forget those kind eyes. Oh my god, it was Ben.
He was tall, brute, and very handsome. His eyes though, they were on Beverly, of course. Who wouldn't want to look at Beverly, she was gorgeous.
Her and I took our seats with the boys, and we all started talking. Catching up, asking each other about our new lives.
"What about you, y/n? You have been pretty quiet." Mike points out. I blush, feeling everyone's eyes go on me.
"Trust me, you don't want to hear my story." I tell them. "It isn't as amazing as Bill's or Ben's. But, it's not even close to being a happy one."
Eddie looks at my phone as it buzzes, the lock screen of my daughter and I coming up. "You have a child?" The losers go quiet, all looking at me for an answer.
"Yes." I groan. "It's not that big of a deal?"
"Oh my god!" Beverly squeals. "Who's the father? Come on, tell us!"
I look down, fidgeting with my hands. "I really don't think I should tell you."
"Oh, divorce?" Bill asks me, looking at me sorrowfully.
I shake my head. "No, something far more worse than that."
Everyone, but Richie, seems to take the hint. "Jesus, y/n, just tell us!"
"I was raped!" I shout at them. I take a deep breath. "Three years ago, a man, probably a few years older than me, took me and got me pregnant. I didn't have the nerve to abort the poor child, and so, I had my daughter. Her name is y/c/n."
The table goes silent. I scan their faces, looking for anything, but get nothing. I stand myself up. "Please, excuse me." I walk out the front door and breathe in some fresh air. I lean against the wall to the restaurant and pull out a pack of cigarettes.
I look in my purse for a lighter, but I can't seem to find it. 'Shit.' I say to myself. I was about to put the pack away when a hand holds out a lighter.
"If I offer you this, could I take one of those?" Ben asks me. I take the lighter, lighting two cigs, and he takes one from me, placing it in his mouth.
I laugh. "Since when did Ben Hanscom get into smoking?" I ask him.
"Since all the stress with becoming successful." He tells me. "Sorry, that seemed cocky and insensitive." He apologizes.
I inhale. "No, it's ok." I breathe out. "I'm happy for you, with all the shit people put you through, you deserve all of that."
"Well so do you." He tells me. "You were one of the only people who stood up for me, and I never forgot that. You made me laugh so much when you would come over and we would listen to New Kids on the Block together. You made fun of me, but you secretly liked them too."
I stand there, shocked. "I can't believe you remember all of that." I look down. "Remember when we first met, it was the last day of school, and-"
"And you were walking with Beverly to go see Victor, your boyfriend." He laughs. "You helped me avoid your own boyfriend, and you even told me which route to take and everything." He looks at me. "What happened with you and Victor, anyway?"
"I'm not sure, he went missing shortly after we all left Derry, for whatever reason." No one can seem to remember anything, surprisingly. "I never looked back, though, he wasn't the best boyfriend." I shrug.
My phone starts to buzz in my pocket. I pull it out, and I'm getting a call from y/c/n. I look at Ben. "I'm sorry, it's my daughter, I have to take this."
Ben nods, and I answer the phone. "Hi, sweetie, mommy's at dinner with her friends right now, and it's late, why aren't you in bed?" I ask her.
"I miss you, mommy, when are you coming home?" She asks over the phone. I sigh, feeling tears come to my eyes. Ben notices and takes the phone.
"Hello y/c/n, this is Ben, one of your mom's friends. She will only be here a few days, no need to worry, she will be home soon."
"Are you my mommy's boyfriend? Are you going to be my new daddy?" I hear her ask. My cheeks flush red with embarrassment.
Ben laughs. "Well, that's all up to your mother." He tells her.
"Mommy, if you can hear me right now, I think Ben should be my new daddy." I hear her shout. I shake my head. "Can I talk to my mommy now?"
"Sure, sweetheart." Ben hands me the phone.
I sigh. "Hi, angel, you need to go to sleep. You have a big day with grandma tomorrow." I tell her. "I love you so so so much."
"I love you too mommy. Goodnight!" She chimes over the phone, she hands up. I sigh.
"You ok?" Ben asks.
I shake my head. "What happens if I die here, who will take care of her? Who will make sure that she does her homework and goes to bed on time? Who will make sure she eats her vegetables because she won't eat those no matter what."
Ben pulls me in his arms, hugging me. "Y/n, I promise, if anything happens to you here, I will take her." He tells me. "I will treat her like the father she has never had. I will make sure she is ok, and knows that her mom is a hero."
I melt in Ben's muscular arms. I totally forgot about all my worries. Oh shit, no no no, I can't be catching feelings, not now.
Not for Ben.
