Carlos took the twins (as they had explained to him that they were) to the lab and let them help in a few things. There were a few things he asked them not to touch but generally, they were allowed to roam free. Dipper insisted on helping him, so Carlos gave the boy the benefit of the doubt and let him tackle some of the harder stuff. Surprisingly, he did quite well and was especially interested in quantum mechanics. Mabel mostly pretended to chug random vials, which was understandable and what Carlos expected Dipper to do too.
Carlos turned his radio back on and thankfully Cecil decided not to fawn over him and his hair again. Eventually, the end of the day came. Carlos quickly packed up the lab and turned to the twins.
"You two wanna meet Cecil?"
They both nodded.******************************
Cecil turned off the 'On Air' sign and nodded to his new intern. The intern quietly slipped into the darkness. Cecil wasn't quite sure how he got this new intern but he didn't really like this specific one, they didn't talk much, or show their face. Cecil didn't even know their name.
Creepy.
His thoughts were interrupted by a buzz from his back pocket. He pulled out his phone and saw a text from his darling Carlos, perfect and beautiful in every way.
(Hey guys quick authors note: Cecil's third eye can see glimpses of the future or see the present from somewhere else, that's just my Headcannon and how I believe Cecil gets his Information about the news)
'Hey Cec, you know the bus? I found two kids on it. They're gonna stay with us for awhile if ur ok with it?'
Cecil shot back a quick text
'Sure! Can't wait to meet them.'
He stuffed his phone back in his pocket and stepped out of the radio station. He could see Carlos down the street, walking towards the station with two kids, Cecil did a little half-jog to meet up with them.
******************************
Dipper and Mabel saw a man in a suit. The overall color of him was purple, his suit with its rolled up sleeves and bowtie, his hair had hints of fading lavender die in it, even his eyes were violet. He was smiling and had a cheery, but not overly so demeanor. He was jogging up to them, hands in his pockets. One aspect of him that really stood out was his third eye situated in the middle of his forehead, but they had both seen stranger things.
"Hello there, I'm Cecil! It's nice to meet you two." Hearing him speak was strange, they had heard his voice on the radio, of course, but putting a face to a voice you had heard prior was a little strange.
Mabel smiled and stuck out her hand.
"I'm Mabel, the shy nerdy one over here is my brother, Dipper."
Both The Scientist and The Man laughed at that. Dipper gave his sister a death glare, but eventually broke and gave a little smile.
They were soon walking in the direction that was assumably towards their apartment. They made light conversation, just a few things to pass the time and in that Dipper and Mabel learned that this town wasn't all that different from Gravity Falls. It was weird, for a start, but it also had seemingly oblivious residents. The similarities mostly ended there from what they could tell. For example, Gravity Falls was mostly forest, while Nightvale was mostly dessert. They didn't know much else.
The twins noticed The Scientist and The Man (they still weren't used to their names quite yet) walking nearly diagonally to avoid a certain metal wall, that of which hummed slightly so that one could assume that it was electrified. Dipper was the one to speak up this time.
"Hey, why are you walking so far away from that area?" He noticed the almost panicked look on each of their faces.
Carlos gave a small, fake smile.
"I'll explain later, just, don't look over there."They got to the apartment and Dipper spoke up again as Carlos was unlocking the door.
"So what was that about?"
Carlos sighed.
"That, was the dog park. I think I'll let Cecil explain it further, he has a really great way of explaining it."
"I mean, it's technically the City Council's description, I just happened to repeat it. They say; 'Dogs are not allowed in The Dog Park, People are not allowed in The Dog Park, You may see hooded figures in The Dog Park, do not acknowledge them, do not acknowledge The Dog Park.'"
They had no words. What in the world was in the Dog Park to make it so illegal just to think of it?
"It's not really that bad though." Carlos chimed in. Cecil gave him a death glare.
They were inside now and Dipper and Mabel had sat on the couch while Cecil and Carlos pulled up chairs from the table.
"But that's enough about us anyway, where were you two originally headed to?" Cecil asked.
They looked at each other. Should they tell them about Bill? They saw no reason not to, but it just felt wrong talking about it. They decided not to for the time being.
"We were headed to Gravity Falls for the summer, Our Great Uncles are still off on a sailboat somewhere but Wendy's family offered to let us stay."
"You mean your girlfriend's family, Dipper." Dipper blushed. Everybody snickered at that.
"Gravity Falls is a pretty weird place though, it's actually kind of similar to Nightvale in some ways."
"Oh?" This came from Cecil, Carlos had his hand on his jawline, deep in thought.
"Yeah! I almost married a bunch of gnomes, There was this 'child psychic' who was really a phony, who also wanted to marry me... Now that I think about it I've been forced to almost marry a few people actually."
"Yeah and whooooo had to save you from them?"
"Myself! I had to save you and myself"
Everyone laughed, (except Carlos who was still thinking) it was just typical sibling bickering.
"We had to help run a tourist trap our Grunkle Stan ran, it sucked, he was always asking me to do the hard stuff."
"Grunkle?" It was actually Carlos who asked this.
"Oh, yeah, it's a nickname Mabel made up and it just stuck, Great+Uncle= Grunkle."
Carlos nodded and Cecil glanced at his watch.
"Oh jeez it's already 9:00, we should all get to bed, would you two be comfortable sleeping on the couch?"
They didn't think they really had much of a choice so they just shrugged. Besides, they could be sleeping outside.
Cecil got up and tugged on Carlos' lab coat collar, who was still thinking.
"C'mon hon" Cecil said it softly.
Soon the twins were passed out on the couch, Sharing a purple blanket Cecil had lended them.
