As we kissed and wrapped our arms around each other, I began to think more about what I could possibly do without Duke. I knew I wouldn't forget about him, no matter how much evidence of him I destroyed. It would have to be a pain I'd live with for the rest of my life. But it would also perhaps be a good memory, one that would cause me to become the number one chocolatier once again.
Slowly, I let go of Duke, noticing the tears running down his eyes.
"Now, do you promise to keep making those TikToks?" He asked me, sniffling a bit.
I nodded slowly. "Anything for you."
"Okay. I'm gonna go now." After making a few steps closer to the door, he turned and asked me, "Do you have any other questions?"
"Well, let me open the door for you since I have the key," I said, feeling more tears come down my face. I ran over to the door and took the key out of my pocket. Slowly, I inserted it into the keyhole, giving him one last kiss on the cheek. I forcefully opened the door, fighting against the icy winds.
Duke held onto my hand and slowly let go as he walked out into the fog.
"I love you!" I screamed out, feeling the wind sting my cheeks.
"I know!" Duke screamed back.
"Be careful!"
"I will!"
And that's when I saw that same figure I saw in the beginning slowly get smaller and smaller until it faded away from my sight, but not my memory.
