After Louis and I's interview wrapped up, we left the studio. The walk to the car was spent with us playfully ruffling each others hair and ducking out of the way of each other's hands.

Louis managed to scoop me up from around my waist which made me let out a rather squeaky laugh. He held me close to his chest and spun in a circle, making my legs fly out.

We might have legally been adults, but we were a long way from being grown-ups.

When we made it into the car, I slumped into my seat. Louis copied me in the drivers seat, making no move to turn the car on. We looked across the arm rest at each other. He yawned, which caused me to yawn in return.

"Tired?" he asked.

"Absolutely exhausted," I laughed. "Do you think Niall and the kids are okay?"

"I don't see why they wouldn't be," Louis said.

"Niall let you get me drunk when I was sixteen."

"That he did," Louis said, grimacing. "I'll text him and tell him we'll be home in half an hour?"

"I'll text him," I corrected, "you focus on the road."

"Got it boss," Louis said playfully. At the same time, we shimmied up into our seats. He started the car while I texted Niall.

While waiting for his reply, I grabbed and held onto Louis' hand. We had been together for most of the day, but that didn't stop me from wanting to be close to him.

He was my person, after all.

Niall eventually texted back.

nialler
nope, i brought them sky
diving and then fed them
shrooms.

"Kids alright?" Louis asked.

"Nope, Niall gave them shrooms and brought them skydiving."

"Sorry, repeat that?"

"I'm joking," I laughed. I squeezed his hand once and smiled softly at him. "They're just fine, Lou. Ni's bringing them back to our place right now and he's gonna meet us there."

"That's good," Louis sighed. "Are we gonna adopt them?"

I hesitated to answer the sudden question. It wasn't that I didn't want to adopt the kids. It wasn't that at all.

"I don't know," I said honestly. "Would you want to?"

"I think so," Louis said softly. "They're amazing, love."

"I know they are," I agreed. Keenan and Karter Smith were resilient. Louis and I were the first people that gave them the chance to be more than that. Slowly but surely, over the last two months, they began to come around to the fact that Louis and I are good.

They both struggled with that. Their minds were screaming at them to stay away, to keep closed off, to not get attached. It was difficult to do, though, when they were given no reason to protect themselves from us.
