An obnoxiously loud knocking woke Parker up on what she thought would be the start of the worst weekend of her life. All the girl wanted to do was lock her door, plug in her headphones and pretend that she was actually staying home to attend Michigan's summer music program. However, Parker decided today of all days would be the day to choose the path of least resistance, because maybe if she complied, her parents wouldn't send her to a cross-country boarding school upon her return. The blonde teenager dragged herself over to put on the sole pair of shorts she owned that hadn't already been packed and thumped down the stairs into the main room. Both of her parents grinned at her as they watched her stumble loudly in protest, "Honey, we know that this isn't exactly how you wanted to spend your first weekend of summer, but this will be good for you. Help you branch out. MAKE FRIENDS!" Her mother ecstatically greeted her daughter.
"I'm just sooooo excited," Parker retorted while her father raised his eyebrow at her as a warning.
"Hey, this will cheer you up! I made you your favorite... French toast and bacon!" Her dad pushed a plate towards her usual spot, which Parker was heading towards. He beaconed her closer as he whispered to her, "I also gave you some lucky charms for the plane ride, try sharing them with who you're sitting next to,"
Parker genuinely smiled at her father's attempt of looking out for her. Although she didn't agree with her parents about a lot of things, she genuinely loved them. After she finished her meal, she decided that they needed to head to the airport or else she would miss her flight. Her mother squealed in delight and started packing up the back of the Volvo SUV, and Parker took one last look around her midwestern neighborhood. She would never admit it, but she was actually sort of looking forward to being with people that didn't know her: and she didn't plan to let them get to know her.
The entire process of driving through the hectic interstate, finding parking at the airport, checking her oversized bag, and finding the proper gate was stressful for the young girl. What made the situation exponentially more stressful for the girl was that both of her parents left her stranded at the kiosk because they needed to go to work. First she boarded her charter plane to California, and with many delays, she barely landed on time to make her flight to Hawaii. With her luck, her two gates were on opposite sides of the terminal and she had to rush to the other side in a whopping 7 minutes. Obviously the girl chose the wrong hobby, and she should've chosen an athletic hobby that would've proved itself useful at this time. Parker found everything she needed a minute before the doors closed and approached the small desk with the attendant to the gate.
Out of breath she wheezed,"Hi my name i-"
"You're Parker Hendricks correct," the musician slowly nodded, "Right this way, we're about to close the doors." The pair walked across the tarmac to a petite but very fancy plane. Parker ascended the built in stairs, and saw that all the seats but one had been filled. Awkwardly, she sat down in the seat on the right side of the last row, behind a girl with curly hair and kind eyes, and across from a brunette girl that looked overly attached to her book. In the next two minutes the plane was cleared to depart and up in the air. Parker decided that to pass the time of the lengthy 2 hour flight by playing some of her favorite music from her phone
That idea was a great one, but was interrupted a short 3 minutes into the flight, when someone abruptly yanked her headphones out of her ears.
"What the-" she exclaimed
"I'm sorry," the girl in front of her grimaced, "apparently were starting bonding activities and Texas couldn't get your attention so I did." Parker was not pleased in the slightest about the headphones nor about the bonding activities.
"What if we played truth or drink?" The Asian girl diagonal from her suggested.
"I think that's a little intense, especially for people who don't know each other all that well."
"What about we just get to know each other by talking to a partner," a girl towards the very front of the plane suggested.
The blonde girl who the girl in front of her called Texas said, "Now that seems like a great idea," and started making her way down the aisles pairing off different people until she reached the girl across from Parker.
'Texas' chirped, "And my name is Shelby. Well, let's see! I'll introduce youuuuu" Shelby looked to the girl across from Parker but then decided against paring her with anyone because of the glare directed at the blonde's face. "Never mind, you guys can get to know each other if you'd like," with that she strutted back to her designated seat. Parker glanced over to the girl who was practically devouring her book. She decided that the girl seemed to be her kind of person: shy, normal, driven, and most importantly beautiful but not obsessed with her looks.
"I know you're probably busy reading, and I would've been busy listening to music if I wasn't rudely interrupted. This is also a little weird because I rarely like to talk, or really talk to anyone I don't know, but you seem like a person I'd like to get to know," Parker rambled to the girl who was half listening, "But anyway my name is Parker and I just wanted to introduce myself so I know somebody on this goddamn plane". The girl across from her's face lit up in amusement to this statement, and she chucked lightly when she heard the seemingly innocent girl curse like it was nothing..
"I wish I knew nobody on this plane... anyway, I'm Leah, Leah Rilke. Nice to meet you!" Leah smiled and then continued to delve into her novel. With that Parker turned her attention back to her phone, and more specifically her Spotify. She put on her 'to learn' playlist and started attempting to figure out what she could, so she could hopefully perfect it by the University of Michigan Showcase for young Musicians.
Suddenly, the lights went out on the plane which Parker found to be very strange, but she didn't really start freaking out until the turbulence came. The girl had never been a fan of flying and usually preferred shorter flights to avoid the rough turbulence that wound send her anxiety levels into the roof. This was no short flight, and they were above the middle of nowhere in the Pacific Ocean. Parker felt her breath quicken and soon she saw black dots in her vision as she heard the blaring alarms and the captain panicking. Before long, the girl hyperventilated until she passed out, long before the others
