Sebastian closed the thick book in his hands and slowly stood from the chair. He looked sadly down at the body laying so still on the bed, no breath moving his chest nor heartbeat coloring his cheeks red. "Ciel..." He turned his head as he walked away from the chair he had been sitting in. He left a steaming hot cup of tea on the nightstand, the porcelain waiting for someone to pick it up and empty it of its contents, but the lifeless person on the bed could neither move nor drank a drop.
Ciel was dressed in his usual dark suit, his hands clasped over his rib cage. A look of peace was plastered on his face, but the images Sebastian had placed in his head were all but peaceful. It was a wonder how his soulless body had survived this long, but when you had a powerful witch on your side, it seemed anything was possible. Even a demon had his limits.
He closed the door behind him and headed to the second floor. Light pooled under the door he stopped in front of. He raised his hand and lightly tapped on the door. He received no reply. "Luna? I am coming in." He pulled the handle down and entered the Victorian style room. A candelabra lit the dark room, the curtains pulled aside but offering only the dark night sky, no moon out that night. He looked over at a desk pushed in the corner of the room, thick books of many different languages surrounding it. A figure was slumped over the desk, her cheek pressed against the hard wood and her breathing light. He walked over to his wife and placed his hand lightly on her shoulder. "Luna?"
"What? I am awake!" Luna said quickly as she sat up. She looked around sleepily before her eyes fell on him. He chuckled as a piece of parchment stuck to her face flipped back but still stuck to her skin. She looked at him in confusion before he peeled the paper from her cheek. She groaned as she ran a hand through her tousled hair and leaned against the wooden desk.
"You need to sleep, love," he frowned, immediately noticing the bags under her eyes. "You have barely slept since the... incident."
"I can not sleep, Sebastian," Luna replied, her voice soft and tired from lack of sleep. "I have to figure out how to fix him. I have no idea how long the preservation spell will last before... before it is too late."
"Luna, kitten," he said as he knelled down to her level, "I want to save him as well, but running yourself rigid is not going to help him. You need to rest." He gently cupped her face, but she would not look at him. "You barely eat and you have not left this room. Ciel would be fuming by now if he could see you. If you will not sleep for his sake, then will you do it for mine? Please?"
Lunas eyes finally met his and she sighed in defeat. "Alright."
"That is my girl," he said softly as he pressed his forehead to hers. "Now," he stood up with a tired smile of his own and spread his arms wide, "come here."
*************
Luna stood from the desk, her legs stiff from not moving much. She practically fell into Sebastians arms as she wrapped her arms around his neck and he swept her into his arms. She leaned her forehead against the curve of his neck. "I hate being so tired."
"I know," Sebastian sighed. She could tell all this was taking a toll on him as well. He cared about Ciel just as much as she did, it was just difficult to get him to admit it at times. He was still a demon, after all. "We will think of something, though." He carried her over to the bed and stood her up in front of the bed.
"It would be if I was a full fledged witch," she said regretfully. "I should have started training sooner."
"It is not your fault," Sebastian said as he unlaced the back of her dress and let if fall to the floor. She nearly sighed in relief. Sitting at a desk wearing a Victorian style dress was not the wisest decision on her part. The metal wiring had dug into her skin as she sat. He traced his gloved fingers softly over the red marks. "Luna." He clicked his tongue. "What am I to do with you?"
